The truth surly is that it was overlooked, that no one in the Council gave it a thought that there might, just might be people on a parade which included the elderly that may just want to go to the toilet.
I know when I was at the Cenotaph in London a couple of years ago you had to leave the parade area to go to the toilet but there were toilets available, so I doubt this had anything to do with security, it was lack of forethought and someone needs to take it on board for future years.
If they are closed every Sunday then why? people do go out on a Sunday and public toilets should be available.

So if this was the case then how far do you go?should you be shutting mcdonalds,Argos,Sports direct, etc, etc, anywhere that the public can walk in and out of?As i mentioned,Stenbrook toilets were shut last sunday. This has only just started happening, they was always open before.Could it be a staffing problem for locking/unlocking or is it to discourage Dovers drunks and druggies from meeting there?

the stembrook closure on sundays must be a very recent thing as i have gone past many times and they have been open.
yesterday's fiasco looks like a lack of liaison between the two councils.

As mentioned, many did not know, there was a lot of complaints and people were not happy. For the council to keep them closed on sundays can only be a cost cutting exercise. So if you,re a visitor/tourist DONT COME TO DOVER ON A SUNDAY.THEY WONT LET YOU USE THE LOO. Also what will happen in the next few weeks with the run up to christmas. The town can then get very busy on a Sunday. Will they still be keeping them shut? Will the pubs and cafes etc mind the scores of familys using their loos?Does the council think this will be ok?

I think that next year I shall make an H&S announcement giving advice as to where the toilets are, where the first aid post is and anything else that seems appropriate.
We should also campaign for the Maison Dieu toilets to be open that day. Even if the town hall is open it is not "disabled friendly".

The Sunday closure of the toilets beggars belief, there may not be such a big need on a Sunday but there is a need, the provision of toilet facilities is surely the most basic and minimum thing a Town can offer it's residents and visitors! Imagine a workplace that has reduced staff in on a Sunday and the toilets being closed because of that!

If I remember correctly are not the toilets in the Town Hall down a flight of steps which if I am correct is not very good for the disabled and if so is the lift available to the toilets?
However does not get away from the fact that the toilets should have been open in the Town on Remembrance Sunday if not every Sunday.

With the economies of scale an East Kent Council would provide we would not have this problem.
