With very little warning, Elms Vale Cleaners in Pencester Road have closed their doors for the last time; I collected the pair of trousers I had in there on Monday

. So, where do I take my dry cleaning now? Any suggestions - I cannot believe that I'm consigned to going Morrisons at Canterbury...it's a sad day when Dover can offer no dry cleaning facilities at all.

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

That is bad, but I guess people weren't taking their clothes there anymore. Were they just too expensive ? I hadn't noticed any special offers there recently.
I know that more clothes can be washed nowadays, but overcoats and suits etc. need dry-cleaning.
Another hole in the High Street.

Don't either of the laundrettes have a dry cleaning machine?

That would have been useful for them.
If it was the same owner as has been for a few years, he lived quite a way away (outer London somewhere I think), maybe he didn't have the time to dedicate to growing (or even maintaining) the business.

I think the laundrette in Cherry Tree has a dry cleaning machine. Of course you have to do your own pressing.

have to be very careful with the chemicals used in those machines, many years ago i put 3 suits into one and when i finished hung them up in the car to drive 10 minutes home. nearly passed out whilst driving, there are warnings in launderettes about the effects nowadays.

I keep thinking about the 'Candid Camera' skit, where they took over a Dry cleaners for the day and said that they were only cleaning 'clean' clothes that day, a classic
Nowadays you can clean some suits etc in the washing machine, which wouldn't have been the case in the past.

i am surprised that the previous owners couldn't make a go of it bearing in mind there was/is no competition.

would you believe it,went to take a suit in this morning and they have packed up again. even taking into account the increase in machine washable stuff there should be enough business in dover to keep a dry cleaners happy.
