A number of surprises there. Certainly food for thought.
Well someone had to say it!

Sounds like more red tape with the expense being past on to the customer,
probably be an army of civil servants employed to police it

not so sure about that, although most come out well a few appear to be franchises of "bacteria r us".
a couple of surprises there, one highly recommended by our resident gourmet sarah.

I think Sarah and Bern should both post pictures of their kitchens

One of the forum advertisers scored equally as badly but is top of the Trip Advisor reviews for restaurants in Dover , I like there as well and again would eat there tomorrow without hesitation

It's not only the premises of course, the staff are also important in their procedures. Last year I went to a relative's umpteenth birthday party in a club that hosted such things. Halfway through the evening a hatch opened up to reveal a nice kitchen with cheffy all togged up in chef's gear including blue latex gloves. Burgers etc were freely available.
I watched while the initial rush occurred thinking that I would wait awhile. As I watched it became apparent the cheffy had a cold. Every now and again he would take a tissue from his pocket and wipe his nose. The tissue would then go back in the pocket only to be taken out after a few minutes, folded to find a dry place, wipe his nose again and put it back. At no time were the gloves changed.
A friend who was with me said that he was hungry. "Don't have a burger" I said.

I would have to be pointed towards it by a guide Ray , why do you think I know so much about restaurants ?

Ireland is still catching up with the whole food hygiene thing - not always a bad thing. I am with Sarah on this, there is more to food than a bit of clean! However, I do recall, with a shudder still, sitting in a coffee shop in Wexford watching the girl who had just served us our tea, sandwiches and cakes, standing behind the counter absent-mindedly picking her spots and smearing her fingers over her apron. Her complexion was, well, variegated.
