All too often I get 'told off' for giving a view on someone else's view as it will 'put the readers off', however I am finding the constant slagging off of the town, efforts of regeneration, personal snipes, and constant negatity is rather putting me off and am sure will be putting a lot more people off.
There is an amazing amount of things that Dover should be proud of and a huge amount of effort that people are putting in to try and 'big up' the area, but anything good just gets pushed down the pages with pointless political threads.
Not sure I want to have anything to do with it any more and may sign off.......
Been nice knowing you :)

Agreed. We should be applauding what progress is being made, however small, rather than knocking those who are trying their best. Stay around Paul.

It has been rather intense lately, but when someone is so negative about everything, despite many people trying to convince them that things are going as quickly as possible, what can you do ?
Not sure if you are talking about DL's negativity Paul, but he is not normally political, just bashing those who are. I echo Peter's comment - stick around, the Forum needs your input.

Please don't quit Paul. Your postings of appropriate old photos and encyclopaedic knowledge of Dover and surrounds are one of the main reasons I joined the forum.

I agree completely Paul.
We are all entitled to a view (heard that before somewhere

) and most of us have had a moan about the town's faults and then try to come up with a positive alternative or we shut up when the reason is explained to us.
I could continue but will take Mike's advice, and Paul please stay

I would agree too with Paul's opening paragraph at the top. Its a great pity to see some of our main players being slagged off. The forum normally sorts these things out but it has to react to situations so sometimes it takes a bit of time. But the harranging harrassing posts are not acceptable. The other members dont like it and it just puts everyone off posting..

Let me take a slightly different outlook,
We have before seen that the threads that have most postings are the political ones, now whilst some posters say they are pointless, and they are not interested in them, often the same people post on them, and in fact give often, some very good viewpoints.
Whilst I may not agree with some posters and some not with me we have been here loads of times,
as Jan says everyone has a right to read whatever posts they wish, and post on whatever they wish thats the beauty of the open forum.
Moving on to Scotchie's point on negativity, in all honestly like scotchie doesn't like political posts(even though he often posts on them, i dislike scotchie's attacks on alexander But like i say its all about choice people can post if they wish on whatever thy wish, or not at all.
And they can read all threads, or some threads, all choice.
The problems we have on Dover, is that many will talk up Dover when that need arises, but we should also recognise (if we accept the point) Dover's decline.
I realise out there we will always have posters that want an impossible change to Dover, and no matter what happens they will be negative and thats part of many forumites make up.

I think Keith's post above is a shining example of why SOME people get so frustrated at times with posts as he has misquoted me.
I do not mind as I know what he meant but others take a different view when it is their expertise that is being questioned and they have given an accurate reply.

Jan;
as far as i can see its not a misquote, but ok,if i did i apologise
On the question of expertese, we do not know all forumites backgrounds/expertese and whilst some will come on here saying they are experts in whatever we have others who have as much expertese but dont spout about it.
thats just an observation.

I agree with Paul, if one can't say something positive then they should keep quiet about other people's efforts.

It is a fact that people find it ok to be negative when it suits their opinion and slam negativity when it does not, people in glass houses and all that.

Having said all that, and having agreed with most of it, politicians are fair game, as a forum such as this is a good place in which to hold them to account, and if they don't like the heat they should get out of the kitchen.
We need strong council leaders who can make sure that the political will is not frustrated by the administrative 'won't'. Capable as most of our councillors are, too many are scared to say 'boo' to the officer geese.
Oh, and I reserve the right at all times to be negative about DHB, Gordon Brown and David Cameron.

It's not negativity its input from the public,
Some companies pay for this sort of info
You get it for free ,you should be happy for the feed back
You can dish your owe negativity to,
When I suggested these projects employ local British firms and workers you pored scorn
People are concerned that the project will not work; we cannot nock it all down and rebuild if they get it wrong. The past records not very good
Alexander gets more scorn than anybody on this site ,he doesn't run for the hills he stand his ground, becomes he believes in the things he is trying to get over
Go have a holiday in Amsterdam and Bruges life you up a bit

Used to be fun here but doesn't seem like it any more
