Nice to be able to see some of the artworks that don't get a chance to see the light of day very often

It would be nice to see Dovers own collection which is locked away in boxs and never been see by the public with a value of over 1miillion they should put it on show or sell it for needed funds.

Deja vue !!
Just because things aren't on display all of the time they shouldn't be flogged off.... a lot of items are regularly rotated into new displays at the museum.
Been nice knowing you :)

No way should these assets be sold unless absolutely necessary. How about making a DVD of them all that could then be sold as a fund raiser for some local amenity.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

They are only assets if you use them, the painter did not spend years painting them just to be locked in their boxs never to be seen in daylight by the public.

I have to disagree Vic with the first part of your sentence, think of any savings that you keep for a rainy day they are an asset that you hope you will never need.
I agree with the second part they should be seen, it would be nice to know what there is locked away in safe keeping, that was why I suggested a DVD.

DDC have many works of art that (probably) because of insurance costs, are kept locked away.
Security would have to be very tight if they were to be made available for viewing by the public - even us Councillors don't get to see them.

My unerstanding is that many of the so called locked away paintings are actually rotated and seen,

Greece are flogging off their great works of art, bulidings, Demis Roussis,Zorba dancing rights in order to pay off some of their debt.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
Can I bid on Demis Roussis? He would look a treat in the corner of my study, and could double as a handy bird scarer.

I can speak on this as lead member for the Musuem and Chairman of the Council.Roger is correct the paintings are rotated .Im having three taken out of storage to replace some of the paintings in my office .There are several on display in the Musuem ,Dover Town Council offices and various offices at DDC.
This has been discussed previously .Once an assett is sold it is lost forever .
I could refer posters to the thread re DHB .
The paintings were given to the people of the district for safe keeping .Some have been purchased over the years
I can only agree - selling off the family silver is never a good idea. Once it is gone it is gone. I do go to our fab museum but rarely to the council offices. Is there any other venue secure enough for public access viewing? I'd love to see some of our locally held art.

I am told there are well over 400 paintings and I still say a lot of them never see daylight, only a very few.
So other than selling them off - a painfully bad idea - what are your options, Vic?

Bern ,Sorry but we do need funding for the town so I still say we should sell some of them off but only if in the end they will be put up where the public can see them, ie a Gallery like they have in London.
