Well today will see the return of my very long life story some will have to be left out ,but later today you will read more about my years in the army and what happen,I am going to call this "The Odd Ball"because that is what I was ,when I stopped writing this story last year it was at the time I was waiting to see what they were going to do to myself the R,S,M wanted to send me back to Canterbury to do my basic training ,but I said no to that ,as I had been in the army now for some years, why they did not just let go out of the army I will never know,I was a nobody did not have the training as others did ,as I was a odd ball that they could not fit in to anything, but still they would not let me go out of the army,I was told at some point I was to go into a band again after all that is what I was trained for which costed them a lot of money. The Queens own Buffs were moving away from Folkestone to a new posting now that we had joined with the West Kent. One morning I was called into the company office and told that after they had moved out there was going to be a rear party which is going to stay behind to get the Bks clean up and ready for the hand over, and yes I was to be one of them there would be about 30 of us +some N/Service men who were going out of the army in a few weeks time. After the hand over we were to return to the bks where the Q.O.BUFFS were posted. But like most things at that time that did not happen.later read about what happen to me most of it will be fun to read.

By this time the regiment had moved out and went to Colchester Meeanee bks.
And life turned good for us left behind ,only a few of us all we had to do is go to the office at 0800hrs each morning to be given jobs for the day, after that we had time off and no work at weekends. And only two men needed in the gate house each day. Then after a week or two they started sending us men who had just been in the army a few weeks done their basic training and moved to us from Canterbury, this was ok all they was doing is sleeping in our bk blook. But they could not get on with the few National service men ,so there was a few fights .

Well the time came for the last of the National service who were with us to go out of the army.
The officer who was the boss and his job was to hand the bks over whenthe work was done, also he had to keep the N/S /lads in order not a easy job as it tuned out.
Two days before the N.S.LADS were to be discharge they had to hand in all their kit and pay for anything was missing. That went off well. Then the N.S/LADS were called in by the CO major Mcdonald who was a good officer, anyway he told the lads who was going out of the army"this is your last day in the army and I also know you plan to go out on the town tonight,,,going out is OK with me ,but no fighting in the town or you will before it.and on your return from the town you are to stay well away from the rooms that have the new lads in,if you do not then take it from me you will all end up in the COLCHESTER DETENTION FOR 56 DAYS so you have been told.

We were called in to see the Co on the afternoon of that day, he told us what he had told them,he went on to say that for the next two days we had to stay in camp and help out if needed, there was a few M/POLICE with us.We were all given pick handles of wood ,told we could use them if the need be but aim for the legs or arms not the face etc.
The N.S LADS went out on the town we was told they were shouting in the pubs but that isall they done,it was a about 0230hrs in the morning when they all came back in they passed the gate with nothing happen, but then they run to wards the rooms of the new lads the doors were looked but they still got in by the time we got there they were all fighting chairs etc being used in the fighting lots of blood on the walls etc,we then went in under orders to stop it .this we done ,useing our pick axe handles after some time order had returned and all the N,S MEN WERE ALL locked up till the morning .
At 0800hrs saw us matching them out to the CO office with some MPS to help us.
Well they were all matched in to his office about four at at a time, the Co then told them all "well I told you what would happen if you got into a fight,so that is now going to happen .

Well major Mcdonald was true to his word ,the N/S/MEN were marched into his office two at a time and each of them afterwards was marched to the store where they had to draw out their kit again, and put it on then they were all put in the backs of 3ton lorrys and with some of our rear party and MPS taked to the COLCHESTER Detention Centre to carry out their 56days in nick without pay .
It was only about two days then it hit the headlines in the newspaper and TV .lots of the public were saying the army was wrong and that they were to hard on them.
But in my way of thinking the Army was right the men was told what would happen before they went on the beer that night, one newspaper made it headlines for a few days and were saying that Major Mcdonald was wrong. But he hit back at them and again he was right ,he was a very good officer and one that looked after his men as you will read later on.
Well with all the work now done and the bks sighed over it was time for us to return to the regiment, must say not looking forward to that life had been good most of the time being in the rear party. But did this happen or was there someing in store for myself that I did not know find out in the next part of my life story. It is better than watching the world cup.

None of us in fact did volunteer but that is the way it did work ,"we need volunteers you and you etc.

".We was picked up that night in a lorry and taken to where our new home and training was to be,I can tell you now it was Brompton or Kitchener bks Gillingham,we were taken to a part of the BKS not in use at the time.We was there we was to meet A Sgt from the S,A,S he told us he could not tell us his name or army number or anything about him. We were told this the home of the Scots Guard but at no time must we talk to them or mix with them.We were there and they must not know us or even see us at anytime.
"Now I can tell you why and what this is all about. all the time you are here you will not be allowd out .""Right you are to be Enemy to the Guards who are going overseas but need to do some training in the highlands of Scotland before that happens .So this what it is all about, you lot will be train in Guerrilla warfare and how to lie a ambushes and sabotage etc, and we do not have a lot of time to do this so it is going to be long hours 7/24 .first off we have to train you in unarmed fighting etc."
I do not have the time to go into all that just to say it was done and it was hard but must say it had a use even after I came out of the army as you read later on.

Next step we was told we were to be Kongo Tribe and could only talk that language in fact we still use the English language, but when and if they captured any of us we was to tell them that.So again we was showed now to lie a ambushes and showed
how to use thunder flashes, and trip wires etc, and how to sabotage building, tents, lorrys, all great fun apart from it was winter time and very cold. All this took about 3 weeks training then we was called to a meeting with two Scotsguard officers very young but later in life they both had good jobs, they were Lord Vestry of the blue star shipping line and Lord Sterling the chairman of P&O who were in the army because it was the done thing for men like that to do service in the army as guards officer but only for 3 years. they both were going to be our leaders in Scotland in fact we did not see them much all the time we was there, we was told once in the highlands we were to be drop in small groups of the mountains and would have to try doing sabotage and ambush etc the guards when we saw them or at their HQ which was a old school not in use anymore,

Well we was also told there will be ground rules we must follow but will be told what they are when we get to where we are going,But from today you will not wear a uniform but civilian clothes which will be given out to you and you do not call any officer sir or rank of a n.c.o. You are going up to Glasgow in Scotland by a troop train,I even think it was a steam one ,there will be over 1000mengoing, you lot will be in the end carriage with a ration army pack each ,you will not mix with the other troops and stay in your carriage till you are told to leave. This is going to be great fun for us no officer to tell us what to do or call sir,no uniform to take with us "O BOY HOW WRONG CAN YOU GET

ABOUT SOME THING.!
It took the train a very long time to get to Scotland it was stopping on the way up to pick up more troops etc .Well at last we did get there we had to wait till all the troops got off the train and move off in bus,s and lorrys where to I still do not know

well it came to our turn we was told we was going to stay in Glasgow for the next 24 hrs staying in a salvation army hall sleeping on the floor and to eat our 24hr pks of food.

WEll time moves on and in the morning in came a well dressed man he called over to us My name is Vestry and am going to be your leader over the next few weeks +there will be a few guards men come over to our side to make our numbers up.to what they should be, one is a sgt and is my second in command of our group, but do not call him by rank or name.
Well I am now going to tell you the ground rules and they are a must to keep to.When we are dropped by Helicopter on the mountains , in fact you will not be dropped we will all go down by rope the copper will not land but you have been trained how to go down by rope you make the steps by putting the rope over and under you feet as you go down once down you will pick up your small amount kit you are taking with you.,Right rule (1) you must shut all gates behind you.(2)you will not kill any wild life.(3)the only fire must be very small just for cooking and hot water you must put the fire out and then after a few mins.look again to see it is out.you can do it bywater but no smoke because it could give a way where you are,no fires or lights after dark again it will give a way where you are.You will go in small groups out as GUERRILLAS. yOU WILL BE given some map rev/ on your map it will show where your group will be .you must stay within where the map tells you the last thing we need is a group to go missing so please stay in that area it will cover a few miles .I will have to miss things out but will tell you what they are as I move on with the story.

There is only one group that can go where they want to and they are the Tribal Witch Doctor who is to be Matcham

yea I know that was coming

and with him to act as his guard will be the sgt and one other ,they can move to any group they wish to.That is because the Scotguards will be after them they are under orders to bring in the Witch dr.
Now where we are right now is to be our HQ and group or person that get lost make your way back here or give your self in .Last one,is you can bed down in any farm barn or outhouse you can take eggs only from the farm, but must put a note in the door telling the farmer ,he then can get the money back from the army.
Rest of the way now will be by army 3ton lorry and a landrover, which I will be in with me will be the witch dr and my second in command.
Just one more thing if you get captured do not talk in English talk rubbish ,they will then send for a intertreder when he gets to you ,please then talk in English and he will pass it on to the officer who is doing the interrogtion.
Well thats it load up the gear and we will be on our way ,we have a long way to go must get there before dark.
