Be safe Bern, this horror is a "cultural tradition" that predates Islam and Christianity. There was a large spread in the Sunday Times concerning it showing that among the 'health professionals willing to carry out the barbaric practice are dentists and herbalists.
Obviously this all goes back to the idea that you can own people and that women only have the right to be subservient to the men. Even the countries where it is a tradition (and there's a word that causes more trouble than it cures) are coming around to banning it, although how far that is lip service to western trade agreements would be difficult to determine. When are we going to accept that it is a grotesque practice and punish offenders in a meaningful way?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

These cutlers depend on unity to survive in there countries of origin
So harmony within the group is very important to them.
So to stop adultery and flirtation that can spark extreme violence and grudge vendettas killings, they de-sex the girls, the female is seen as a possession the same as a cow or a sheep, you will not change or stop this practise.
If Lack of food, water ,safty from attack was the norm in this country, you would maybe see similar ways develop over time from us .
There are some cultural that will not rub long with British Weston ways

In a previous century we managed to stamp out the binding of girls' feet in China. Perhaps this has always been in the 'too difficult to talk about' category. But it's barbaric in the extreme- any parent who allows it and any medical practitioner who carries it out should be jailed for a long time. Social services should stop pussy-footing around and start looking out for it.
