Another great band from Birmingham was the Electric Light Orchestra. Jeff Lynne is releasing a new solo album later this year.

Takes me right back........when I was at school Roy Wood lived in Hampstead North London and used to go out with Lindsey de Paul. My friend and I used to nearly camp outside his house (I was a huge Wizard fan) and he would bring us out cans of orange juice. A few years down the line and still in Hampstead, I used to hang around with Hugh McDowell from ELO for a short while, lovely guy, I bumped into him in Highgate a few years ago. I was never into music by Slade or Sweet but I loved Marc Bolan and T Rex and Bryan Ferry.

roy wood was a true brummie and very talented - could play a range of instruments and was at his best with the "move" in my opinion.
loved the "wizzard" stuff, always thought it was a bit tongue in cheek.

Agreed Keith, Yes were another great band - Steve Howe being one of our country's most technically accomplished guitarists. That being said, I bought their 'new' album a couple of years back and can't say it was up to much.
Perhaps a more interesting link is that Roger Dean, the artist responsible for Yes' amazing album covers was a local. I'm pretty sure he lived in Dover for a short spell.

Roger Dean's parents certainly lived in Elms Vale in the 70s.

With my first lot of wages I bought an LP called Cliff Sings, I still have it but have not been brave enough to play it for many years.
