Yet another huge dump of building materials on the Drop Redoubt access road yesterday evening. Tiles and asbestos dumped on both sides of the fence to the metal barrier leading to the Grand Shaft Barracks site.
We know this happened yesteday evening as a WHPS volunteer went for an inspection at 5pm last night and it wasn't there. but was there at 10am this morning. It's the last thing we wanted to happen given Saturday's upcoming event.
Duly reported to DDC. Again.
At least the sod who did this had the decency to leave a bag to put it in.

They look like slates not tiles, they may have a salvage value.

I can't see a builder dumping anything that has value!

that was my reaction, whoever does this knows what they are doing and would also know the value.
i will be up there in the morning and will take a look at the mess.

i suspect you are right tom, the latest photo looks identical to the one posted on here some months ago.
on the plus side photos of rubbish bags dumped close by a week or two back and sent to the council resulted in them being removed.

Yes, I agree Tom. Having seen them close up, I think that's what they were.

Another good reason to applaud any appropriate developments that may create a permanent presence on the Heights that may discourage this sort of act... ?

i was thinking that myself, more people around would be a great deterrent to this sort of thing.

Howard
as witnessed in the alleyways of the Clarendon and Folkestone Road areas?
There is, of course, no justification for this behaviour but as we know that humans will always try to seek to avoid paying for things if there are alternatives (see Barry's postings elsewhere on the Forum!!) I can't help but think that charges for waste disposal are counter productive.

Total disgust for the mindless, could not care less people who do this sort of thing they do it to save paying and when caught need hitting hard in the pocket.
Paul instead of trying to get it cleared up before Saturday why not put a large poster up explaining to all who visit how it got there and asking for help in finding out who dumped it. Shot in the dark but you never know someone may know who the b*****ds are.

That's a good idea of Harry's, some good 'source of rubbish' detectives are needed !!

had a look earlier it is far too easy to dump stuff there without being seen, maybe one of the councils we have could fund a moveable barrier that allows pedstrians and cyclists through at all times?

I too have thought about this.
Why not 'encourage' householders to withhold final payment until they see the certificate of rightful disposal? Why not have Building Inspectors demand sight of these same certificates?
With councils upholding the law on disposal of hazardous waste and making a charge for it, it is they who shall now have to don protective clothing and use special equipment to recover this waste. If it to be left in situ while the public are around it will have to covered over, at the very least.
We either do away with all regulation or do away with the charge for correct disposal.

Don't think that will work either Howard - there are too many places on the Heights or elsewhere that stuff can just be dumped in the dead of night
It was proposed to lock St Martins Battery and Drop Redoubt Road overnight similar to they do at Broadlees Bottom, but that ideas is long forgotten.....
Tom - unlikely not to be householders as they can take stuff straight to the tip. This is back of a "white van" job......

Paul2 (you know who you are, this seems the simplest way)
These white-van-types will have been working for somebody and being paid by somebody, a householder perhaps.

been sent this by paul sampson of w.c.c.p fame, dumped over 2 successive nights apparently.
ddc waste have been notified.
what strikes me is while the person was dumping this in the cut off car park he/she would be gazing across at the stunning vista yet still chooses to dump there.
