greece has now elected its people and looks very unstable
no one party big enough to take it on, and lots of talks to try to cobble a govt together(heard that somewhere before lol)
worse is that 21 far right M.P.'s were elected for the first time ever which shows how bad things are in greece.
lets hope they sort things out, but looks very unstable/unlikely

I get a bit irritated with the whole "cobbled together" stuff. What was the alternative? And for those labour-leaning, don't forget that GB was scrabbling around trying to get into bed with Clegg as well. Would that also have been a cobbled together govt?

Here was me thinking that you meant the Electoral Cycle of scheduled local and district elections of councillors across England Keith. No?
Well here it is anyway...

bern;
you are correct on gb trying to get into bed with cleggy
would have been a total disaster to cobble it together in that form
and like this cobbled together govt in the uk it would not have worked

And the alternative?

Several backbench Tories in the past few days, since the election hammering, have regretted the coalition and have been saying they could have/should have carried on as a minority government following the general election. It would have required some strenuous and continuous deal making but it could have been done. It was pointed out, and something I had forgotten myself, David Cameron has never won an election. he didnt win the general election, and now he hasnt won the local elections either.

A good point well made!!

The lib dems going into -the election were poles apart from the conservatives
and it was unlikely to survive.
cleggy tried to become a second mild tory party but that didnt work
as the lib dem membership pulled him up and hes had to back track
on the conservative side cameron gave the lib dems far to much power for such a minority party, and camerons own supporters are now plotting his downfall in december.

the far right in greece are actually neo nazi, much more dangerous than the other far right groups we have in europe.
gordon brown did not try to do a deal with cleggy, they had a couple of token meetings that led nowhere much to the latters disappointment.

Agree. There was no intention or chance that Brown/labour would get into a Coalition with the Lib/Dems.

howard;
little bit on honesty here
whilst brown didnt go in to co olition think had he been able he would have, which would have been the biggest disaster for the labour party.
the talks between the 2 parties collapsed the tories desperate for power offered the lib dems far more than they deserved.
and yes howard in greece they have some frighteners elected by the far right
21 of them for the first time ever

Brown was desperate to unite with Clegg!

im pleased that the conservatives offered far more than should and labour didnt make up a collition which would have needed up to 4 different parties(or knowing the lib dems, even more)

our bubble friends are having problems cobbling together a government with a further election a possibility.
i think one thing for sure is that there won't be the same austerity measures as before bearing in mind the french result.

I think the point about the non Lib/Lab coalition was that the Libs were not prepared to accept Brown as PM.

Look what happens when the big parties ignore the wishes of the people
