So what does the Dover Express things it is gaining from reporting that "DDC employees spend 67 minutes a day on the internet" and no-one has been disciplined over it.....
Is that really a story? I work for a council and I spend 100% of my day on the internet.... i connect to my software company's helpdesk over the internet and i stay connected all day!!!!
People shop for things on the internet, do research on the internet, go on the internet in their lunch breaks....
How about a new headline, Dover Express spend 50% of their day making up stuf that isn't really news !!

...or how about the experimental scheme to prevent right turns out of Russell Street into Townwall street that "began last week".......
.... the lights have been out of action for at least a couple of months and the gap in the middle of Townwall Street....
Perhaps these local papers should start to have some presence in the town ?

But the Mercury isn't free of some bad reporting...
"56p a day extra to pay for water.. Water charges in Dover are going up by an average of 3.1% or £203 in April, the equivalent of 56p a day for each home."
Going up by 56p a day. My charges are going up by £203 a year ????!!!!!

It is pretty pathetic.
Look at the Dubris column. Once it was a great regular feature. Now it is simply a waste of ink, a sad reflection of what it used to be.
They just no longer have the local contact, don't know the local characters and clearly have no real local knowledge at all.

The Internet terminals in the DCC offices in Castle St don't allow access to Doverforum.

already had a go at the express on another thread for lazy journalism, agree about dubris being a must read in the past.
the mercury make mistakes, not the end of the world, their website is full of latest news so many of our members post links from there which is good for both us and them.

Then they have the audacity to wonder why their sales are falling, I have not bothered with either local paper there is more local news and interesting informative reads on the local forums.

I met a new reporter last week Jamie Rose and we are meeting tomorrow to talk about the Town Councillors new grants,as we have made good progress in Tower Hamlets with all 3 Cllrs going out to groups and advising them about grants,Jamie is meeting me at the Charlton Church Senior Citizens lunch which cost £3 for a superb 2 course meal,I was there a few weeks ago and they already have their grant to buy plates tablecloths kettle and saucepans. So although Jamie isn't local he commites from Sevenoaks and is hoping to move to Folkestone soon he is at least looking at Dover. The problem is we miss Kathy.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

good luck tomorrow with jamie john but how long will he stay for, if a job crops up nearer home he would have to consider it?. i cannot keep up with who is there anymore, got chatting with a young chap(cannot remember his name now) who seemed clued up. next time i saw his name it was as a spokesman for kent police.
the halcyon days of rhys and kathy are now gone.

I buy them both as I hope supporting them will keep them running as volunteer groups rely on them for publicity but they don't do themselves any favours....

I was surprised to see that apart from the usual glib reference in the Dubris column, there appeared to be no coverage in the Express to the visit to Dover by the shadow chancellor Ed Balls. The Mercury had two pages on it, but - unless I missed it - not a column inch in the Express. Surely it was of some local news interest, or as Paul says, perhaps itn didn't classify as "non-news". It does seem their reporters have it in for the council at the moment - nothing they do is right!

My apologies, just had another look and there is something about Ed Balls visit in the Express - one paragraph on page 12.
