Seems like you were lucky Harry. Most people seem to have had an awful experience at Buckland since it reopened:

Oh dear not impressive at all and I note that others experienced the same problem getting through on the phone. From what I have seen the problems seem to be caused by systems that the top bods would have set up rather than the staff on the front line. When I checked in on Thursday for my X-Ray both receptionists were confused as to classify my appointment as there are different codes depending on the part of the body X-Rayed. Wondering if Harry was prescribed anything for his injury.

No I was not prescribed anything, I just went up there, (did not phone) and I was treated by a nurse (a sister) who ended up putting an elasticated knee bandage on. Not a lot I know but everything just felt as though I was in and treated quicker than had I gone to a main hospital..
Maybe I was lucky, but I have been twice before just for blood tests and have been in and out within fifteen minutes where as the old Buckland hospital you had to make an appointment for a blood test and you still never got in on time.
My son is like some of you though he has nothing good as such to say about the place.

With Minor Injuries everyone knows it is open 8 am - 8 pm so need to ring, as for blood tests I have been sent there 5 times since it opened and only had to take a ticket from the machine once so a great service there and opening times are on the website.

The hospital itself getting a bashing now my impression is that front line staff are taking the blame for the overall organisation.

I think you are being a bit unfair there Brian, the previous MP sat on his hands for 13 years whilst the hospital was being run down to almost nothing. At least we have a new facility and hopefully they will put the services in there that they said they would. Plenty of space to do so.

Funny you should mention the phone system Brian last weekend a hearing aid of mine packed up and as I was fitted with it at Buckland I rang on Monday morning and was put through to the voicemail of the Audiology dept eventually. I left a message with all the necessary information and a day later I received a message back from Canterbury saying that would ring me again. They didn''t give a number for me to ring back on and when I tried 1471 the number was withheld, not heard anything since.

Tried today to find out if my broken hearing aid had arrived safely and was being repaired. 6 times I got through to Audiology who told me to wait for the next member of the team to become free, then after a minute or so the line went dead. Someone got paid for setting up the phone system.

This phone problem is something the Dover Express could investigate rather than some of the silly articles they post on-line.

I had to go to M,I.U this morning after a fall in castle street a week ago were I hurt my left wrist,I just thought I had just twisted it,but after a week it was no better so a friend took me to buckland, after an x-ray it turns out the I have broken it so I am in plaster for eight week unless they like I have to an operation,
But the staff were so nice, friendly & gentle they told me what was happening all the way through.
I must say I say not too keen on the new building, yes it looks nice but,I think they should have spent the money doing up the old building. I worked there for 27 years,so perhaps it is just me

Dont think that the new building will last anywhere as near as the old one.Put together like a chipboard wardrobe.

I don't know much about construction but having seen things at various stages of the build and the finished article it looks like it is designed to last about 30 years or so by which time the maintenance costs will be so high and a new building the best option.

Managed to sort out the Audiology, just had a call from the K & C who despite not having an department on the East Kent NHS website have my hearing aid and are sending it back to me repaired.
Buckland do not have a department even though the switchboard keep putting me through to it.

Things have a taken a turn for the better at Buckland as I have just been given an appointment to see a Gastroenteologist consultant there next Wednesday, the actual procedure will be somewhere else but still one long journey saved.
On another subject I have been booked down for a CT scan for something else at Canterbury on a SUNDAY morning so not completely true about a 5 day health service.

Thanks Brian but got a lift as buses are only every two hours on a Sunday and don't go close to the hospital.
