Managed to injure my back before Christmas and as there is no sign of it clearing it up I decided to seek medical help today. Googled minor injury units and their remit covered minor back injuries so I paid Buckland a visit. They were fairly busy so had to wait over an hour to see a nurse. After explaining the symptoms I was told to visit my GP as they are unable to prescribe anything due to being nurse led.
On the way out I passed their in house pharmacy!!

You wouldn't have done much better calling 111 and being referred to the out of hours GP service there - the docs are excellent but if you end up needing a prescription they will write you one and tell you to get to Tesco or White Cliffs Pharmacy as quick as you can!

Surgeries were all open today Ray but as they had been closed for 4 days I thought they would have more than enough customers unlike the Minor Injuries Unit that was open all through the holiday.

Hope it wasn't a stab wound Howard.

Nothing so exciting Peter caused by picking a lawn mower up by one hand without bending my knees and carrying it the length of the garden.

I lift 55kg barrels every day and know how to do it without harm. Anyone wanting to know the two golden rules, just come to the Mash Tun and buy me a pint. Also we have three chiropractors in the family, which helps a bit.

Got a text message through from Buckland asking me whether I would recommend them to family/friends. All it had was 6 boxes to tick and no opportunity to make a comment. All very simplistic as I would give it 4(unlikely) based on that experience but if I ticked that box it would reflect on the staff rather than the set up they work with.

I was told by my doc I needed a chest x-ray, this was at 3.30pm yesterday,so I popped into Buckland to see when they could do it, by 4pm it was done, amazing.

Saw my GP this morning who referred me to Buckland for an x ray and blood tests. The latter is simple enough but the former is difficult to track down on the website, I don't want to turn up if they are not open. Rang the main switchboard and a computer told me the direct dial number for the department but it just rings out.

Would have defeated the object Brian if I had gone down there and was told the unit was not open, never got them to answer their phone.

Howard, X-ray dept. closes at 1 pm for half an hour for lunch. I was there about a fortnight ago for a chest and knee x-ray, in and out in 10 minutes, no waiting.

Had no luck finding the opening hours for the X-ray department so I took a chance this morning, got a good soaking but like Ken and Alec I was in and out in no time, mainly because the machine wasn't working. Apparently they can do front but not back, I offered to swivel round if it helped but to no avail.

Getting less and less impressed with Buckland now have been ringing Reception and X-ray dept since yesterday to find out if the machine is fixed and when the dept is open and both numbers just ring out.

Only phone details available Jan, have rang the patients liaison service and left a message but experience tells me I won't get a reply. Charlie has had all his photo opportunities now Brian, won 't hear much from him on the services there.

Got a call from Patient Liaison this morning to say that they were trying to sort out my problem but the phone kept ringing out!!
I took a chance went down there and got seen right away so when I got home I rang them to say not to try any more as I had now had the X-Ray. A few hours later I got a call to say they were still trying to get through!!
Going off at a tangent they have a very large vending machine outside the blood tests clinic containing various exotic and aromatic dishes that can be microwaved on the spot and consumed there and then. What the place must smell like I shudder to think.

While out walking yesterday my right knee gave way and I am in a lot of pain now when walking. so today I decided to go to Buckland Hospital Minor Injuries. I arrived at 11am was met well at reception and while there were a few in the waiting area I was seen within half an hour and on my way after being treated.by 11.50.
Yes I am still in some pain but the treatment is helping and I have to speak as I found things and that is that I was pleasantly surprised with everything. No it's not a full blown hospital (wish it has been) but had I gone to Ashford or Canterbury I would be expecting to wait two or three hours..
