Sorry DT1, I have become used to expecting an amount of sarcasm when discussing smoking!

Man-made climate change, passive smoking, five fruit or veg per day, recommended daily allowance of alcohol, the end to boom and bust, wind farms will save the planet, the dangers of salt, cholesterol, injecting your walls with silicon will cure rising damp, the BBC is unbiased in their reporting, the euro is a brilliant idea and Britain should join, the UK is still a big hitter on the world stage etc. etc. etc.
All of the above complete nonsense but accepted as fact.
All very difficult to disprove as vested interests and recieved wisdom mean that frank and open debate on these issues are met with rolling eyes.
It's just the way of the world and takes years for supposed truths to be demolished as such.

Philip you have missed out the dangers of refined sugar. There is much research about sugar consumption being the world's number one killer, much of which has been suppressed by the financial might of the food processing industry.

Not forgetting the fluoride added to drinking water to stop people from thinking.

And what with the reduction in non-bovine wind production by way of global deforestation! If it wasn't for we vegetarians wind-farms would soon run out of supply.

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
Philip, I wish I lived on your planet.

Unfortunately for earthlings this is impossible. Our atmosphere is high in carbon dioxide and your atmosphere is unable to sustain life for we Zonkions.
Not only that our world justice council which covers star sector 19 in the area of the universe you know as the horses head nebula in Orion would not sanction any settlement on your, primitive world. Laws regulating advanced geo-engineering on your planet has been ruled as illegal.
However if indeed it is the case that you wish to live on my planet look towards the constellation Orion this evening at 0100 hours. You must wear luminous green cloak and bang the end of a saucepan lid with a wooden spoon in the vicinity of your market square in order that I can recognise you as the one known as Bern.
Live long and crossbar earthling Bern.
Any other inhabitants wishing to join us do the same.
Unfortunately, on my planet it is written that sleep will occur between the hours of 22.30 and 04.00 and this is the law, so although the planet Zonk is my aspiration and the homeland of my heart, I will be unable to accept your invitation and will, perforce, have to put the luminous green for dry cleaning and wait for the next opportunity to bang my saucepan lid - if you will pardon the expression, oh wise Zonkian. Live long and crossbar backatya.
That did cheer me up....!

We were told at sea school that Bromide was put in our evening cup of cocoa to protect the local ladies. I cannot remember if it worked or not it was so long ago.

We were told that even when I was a cadet and at camp.... All I have to say is that it was pretty ineffective if the rumours were true!!!

Just as well I never drink tea or cocoa, and didn't even when I was in the CCF.

It's great to know passive smoking is a myth. Respiration must also be mythological by association.
I once knew someone that smoked and didn't die of a smoking related illness. This must mean that smoking is not harmful.
And the planet has gone through a process of warming and cooling before, meaning global warming cannot be man made.
This really is an amazing approach to logic, I must use it more!?
I've never personally known anyone to get run over by a bus, ergo it must be impossible.

i do sometimes wish i had experienced the same quality of education as you darren.
i have to disagree with you over global warming though, the more i read about it seems a bit of a scam for governments to fleece the proletariat out of more of their hard earned money.
the fashion up until now has been to promote the works of scientists that believe in it, now that the global economy is in crisis the opponents will be believed a bit more
