Keith Biddy.
The Aberfan disaster, on 21 October 1966, killing 116 children and 28 adults. It was caused by a build-up of water in the accumulated rock and shale, which suddenly started to slide downhill in the form of slurry.
I suppose someone might have been negligent but to reduce this catastrophe with one of your snide political remarks is offensive and should be removed.

Nobody is disagreeing about anything, you might want to score a point over the deaths of children, I doubt you've even heard of Aberfan

Just to clarify David. I was not having a go but using your post as an illustration that we should use knowledge gained from what we allowed in the past and ensure that we have the very best practices in place before we enter into unknown territory..
I like to think that my offerings are genuinely without bias to any political party views and delivered with humour when the situation allows,
Personal insults are not a loss leader that I would indulge myself in.
Just noticed your last post. THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR!

It wasn't uncalled for at all, I am sick of Keith misrepresenting me and making snide remarks.
Anyway, hundreds of men worked in the mines in Kent for decades in dangerous conditions. My point re slag heaps like all heavy industry is not easy on the eye. If we have to dig a few holes to save money and create jobs sobeit.

Jan and I have disagreed on nothing, Keith pollutes threads like the smell of gas with his inane remarks, he has nothing sensible or intelligent to contribute.

Re slag heaps: if you have visited our heaps recently you will see they have reverted to nature teeming with flora and fauna, beautiful.
Re Nowheresville: the main thrust of the story relates to oil, not gas. I have real concerns regarding the level of water used in the fracking process, East Kent is normally one of the first areas to call for drought measures to be implimented. Also the effect on the water table. In America, many private law suites are being brought due to the contamination of water due to the fracking chemical cocktails seeping into domestic water supplies.

Now you're talking:
http://www.bishop-hill.net/blog/2013/9/10/future-of-the-climate-change-act.html
Worth actually listening to what some of the MP's have to say until some looney labour greenie zeolot pops up with a discredited survey to prove her point which it doesn't merely compounds the stupidity of the act.

Hard facts not opinions.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/10233955/The-town-where-fracking-is-already-happening.html
Wytch Farm in Dorset is in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. But you would be forgiven for not knowing the largest oilfield in western Europe is even there.
Nestled in a pine forest near a nature reserve and on islands off Poole Harbour, the oilfield owned by French company Perenco has been quietly producing thousands of barrels a day since the late 1970s.
At one point the oilfield had the longest horizontal drill in the world and has regularly pumped water into wells to "fracture" the rock and force out oil and gas.
Academics say that this so-called "fracking" has been used on 200 wells across the UK over the last 20 years or so.

Oh dear was it me who killed this thread?
Or are you all now in favour of fracking?

I don't think they are Gary, they just don't like being presented with facts that contradict their opinions!
Same way some won't believe evidence that global warming isn't happening but jump on the slightest evidence that it is.

But Ray, cold hard facts are not controversial or ego tripping assistants.
A diet of too many facts without the embellishment of the politically motivated minions makes for a boring life for them.
Thank you for posting a little ice relief!

Depends on whose interpreting and supplying the "facts".
