Having been at the rehearsal today I can tell you that, barring accidents, Keith is right.

Good luck to whoever is elected.
Dover's Mayors generally recognise the importance of the responsiblity passed on to them.

Is the woman in the background of the top pic behind the vicar just realising there were more votes than councillors?

I must admit that Julia, the deputy town clerk ( the lady at the back) and Allison the new town clerk and replacement for Mike Webb, coped very well. As did all of the staff involved. Sue Jones got very emotional at the end of her speech. She's had perhaps the best two years of any mayor.
It was a good evening.

Were there no male contenders?

Yes a very interesting night last night. All went off very peacefully. Will have some pictures too, on the frontpage later.
No male contenders Jan - all women.
I think both the new Mayor Ronnie Philpott and the new Deputy Mayor Anne Smith are new faces to the job itself. Cllr Smith has been a councillor for just four years.

I'm not sure we need a mayoral figurehead in the 21st century dressed in pantomine clothes and tri-corn hats. You don't see the mayor of New York walking around kitted out as a Pilgrim Father.

Terry did well to get a serious shot of Ronnie, most of the event she was grinning. In the top photo the councillors with their backs to you are (from left to right), in the back row new councillors Stewart Dimmock, Neil Law and Roger May. In front of them Ann Smith, Gordon Cowan and Sheila Amos. Sheila was, of course a great disappointment as she did not bring cake.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
