I get what you mean Sue but without it the rope wouldn't be able to form the pattern.

I think it is nice to see some modern art that actually has an interesting shape and recognisable meaning.
For once it is nice to praise the DTC who as I understand it arranged for this lovely Remembrance item to come to Dover.

Bloody awful IMHO. More totally rubbish public art.

The sentiment is ok but it’s not art

Of cause it is art, maybe not a piece either either the Captain or Sue like or would choose but still modern art.

It’s not put there for the benefit of the philistines among us. I’m sure there are even some who don’t consider La Gioconda to be art.

What? A French snake as art?

Just to put the record straight this has nothing to do with DTC or DDC and has not involved public money being spent, it was arranged and funded by a private individual in consultation with the Dover RBL branch.

A dictionary would suggest otherwise
Very nearby, I see the Market Square Kitchen is due to open soon!

Art does not have to be a pretty painting or some obvious sculptured representation of the human body. I admit to not being a fan of some abstract modern art but I do love clever shapes especially those made from recycled items.
I guess Sue might not call the wonderful Angel Of The North art or anything by Banksy art.

At the very least, it, like 007 and HMQ and the swimmers, are something to come and see, imbibe a little, and cogitate.

Intellectual work in the design, the selection of materials, the making itself... If Barbara Hepworth or Auguste Rodin are art, then this is too I'm afraid. Of course, it may not be to your taste, or meet your criteria for 'good' art, but art it is. I'd rather fall under a bus than read, say, Catherine Cookson, but I have to acknowledge she'd be found on the shelves somewhere between Conrad and Coover.
