Market Square Fountain, Dover UK
- 13 May 2012 12:27172132i thought pedestrian precincts were what people wanted as long as there was ample parking and easy access to public transport.
a bus runs down castle street hourly during the day monday to saturday but there is no stop from the junction of maison die road and taswell street through to market square. - 13 May 2012 12:29172133getting back to the seafront fountains would be good see some old photos of them, i know some members have put a few on here in the past.

, we also seem to be forgetting about the 'new' fountain in Connaught Park, a beautiful heron/flower sculpture only recently revamped, now cordoned off surrounded by an algae infested pond

- 13 May 2012 19:47172229I used to take photography classes down there with Ray Warner to photograph the fountains up to the late 80s, they were always popular features. It must be shortly after that they were 'decommissioned'.

I was saying that the improvements would benefit both residents and tourists; all of my projects and initiatives have always been about improving things for both, not just one.
It would benefit employment too of course as more jobs mean more spending power for local people and another benefit for local businesses.
Roger - 14 May 2012 07:20172277Shame to say Ive never been to Connaught Park..I dont get out much !! But a reader previously, you may remember , sent in regular pictures of the pond there...and always a sad sight it was too, not much better now as seen in Howards pic in post 31.
Huge thanks to our ace archive man Paul Scotchie Wells for the pictures above in post 24 showing the fountains and how they used to be. Well done with those Paul... heartbreaking to see isnt it. The bottom shot was taken from a familiar location!!lol

I go to Connaught Park a lot as I live very close to it and it's very sad to see this kind of neglect, no excuses! It's terrible that the pond and the new fountain is left like this. It's downright lazy and I guess the next step will be to get rid as we have seen over and over again in Dover
Scotchie, love your pix above, I remember sitting in the park by the bridge and fountain many years ago now, It was truly lovely, another one of many that got axed

Ray Warner loved Dover and he would be appalled to see the way some of it has been left to deteriorate.
