18:2269356I have posted this on another thread but thought it would be better served here where you can all feel free to fling abuse, make Dracula jokes and generally cheer me up
Dear All
I have been rather poorly and only today was relased from hospital after an extended stay.I won't bore you with the details but I have a serious blood disorder that even though uncurable is treatable by weekly blood letting. A bit barbaric but I have been assured that it can work. However they can't start the treatment for at least another 6 weeks. The result has been that it has attacked my organs, immune system and vital necessary chemicals like magnesium and vitamins etc. hence I collapsed and been on drips and under the critical care unit supervision. But we Poles are made of sterner stuff and so stubborn that any alternative other than fighting it with a gsh is not an option. I am 'stable '(probably for the first time in my life..lol) and glad to be at home.
Tomorrow is the Jersey airshow which I intend to attend accompanied by my daughter come what may.I will attempt to post each day and catch up with the DF gossip.Very many thanks for missing me .I am somewhat humbled.
Til next time..... David Milliband for leader and keep the raving left socialist party flag flying.

20:2269368Welcome back Marek, hopefully the treatment will do the trick.
In the meantime some advice mate, if an organ fails there are two good remedies to choose from.
1. Buy a piano
2. Use Viagra
As for being on drips, that must be like living in Dover where we are run by experts.
X being the unknown quantity, and spert being a drip under pressure!
"Does it hurt? Only when I laugh!"
Keep your chin up, we're all rooting for you.

20:4469377Hello Marek. Remain defiant! It's the best remedy! Inform yourself if honey helps, apparently it is a good cure, or at least a help, for many health problems.

06:4869435Basically, Haemochromatosis is a disease caused by excess iron in the body.
Iron is needed in the diet to maintain good health, particularly for making red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body. These red blood cells contain large amounts of iron.
Lack of iron can cause anaemia but excessive iron is toxic.
The body has few ways of disposing of unwanted iron, so it builds up in tissues causing damage and disease.

Haemochromatosis
You are right in your prognosis but the Doctors are awaiting test results on my blood to confirm the above. It is hereditary. The problem wasn't helped by a parasite in my system which I picked up in either India or the Philippines.Southampton tropical disease centre are carrying out a myriad of tests and tomorrow its back again for more blood tests The large number of drugs I take replace the chemicals that are being attacked by the toxic blood. My eyes went a bright yellow which was scary but great for seeing in the dark.....

As a socialist I don't believe in private health care...

anyway it was £500 per day plus fee's and drugs as my brother offered to pay but I refused and said we can spend the dish dosh on a Christmas bash.

Thanks for your advice...should I buy an upright or grand piano?
Everyone
Thanks for your best wishes you don't realise how much it means to me.I will hopefully report back on the free airshow

08:2069454Can I have you as my doctor Peter? If you can diagnose correctly from Marek's original post maybe you could get to the bottom of my ailments.

08:2669456Marek,
Presumably with both a piano and Viagra you would be bound to get an upright?

10:0969468Easy, Jan, I recognise the disorder as my wife also suffers from it. Unpleasant but manageable, it is something you die with rather than die from, as long as it is skilfully managed. It is an iron overload condition caused by being homozygous for one of two mutations of the HFE gene. C282Y is the more common of the two, H63D is the less common. Unfortunately the former is more severe- that is the one Kathryn suffers from and necessitates parting with 600ml of blood every 6 weeks for the rest of her life. While iron studies of the blood can point to heamochromatosis, it can only be confirmed by a DNA test.
