16:0191828I fear Barry is right: a quick search of the EU informs me that Britain never joinded the EU, and the adding of 12 stars to give it a holy shine must make it irresistable.
When the vote results came out in 1975 to remain in the Common Market, all the votes from the Isle of Man were in favour of leaving. How come the Channel Islands managed to stay out, and the Isle of Man didn't?

16:2291829been saying it for years alex, we all voted for a free trade area, then by stealth eec changed to the ec then the eu without anyone being asked.
governments all over the union just let their countries drift in, when they do ask the people questions about treaties or further integration the people say no.

17:3491842You wish Brian, but the fact is the EU gets more unpopular as time goes by and eventually it will be the victim of its own greed and incompetence. It is to be hoped we will be out of it before the whole monolithic structure collapses.

17:5491855The Euro is a seperate issue to EU membership and to adopt it would be an economic disaster for the UK and we would certainly have a lot more bankrupsies and unemployment if we were in before the crisis. It would be an unmitigated disaster.
