21:1691732As the days go by and I sit and watch the news on the TV, I log on to the forum and what do I read?
Alarm, despondansy, disbelief, mistrust and any other words you care to use in the negative.
Having just read an e-mail from Roger about the EU wanting an extra 60% over the next two years and looking at the threads currently on the forum about more cuts in our country I can confirm my thoughts from maybe 8 yrs ago or longer.
WE ARE IN TROUBLE.
Over the years WHY do the people in charge NEVER listen to the public?
Immigration, EU, Iraq, ect. ect.ect.
Please don't give me a long lecture from UKIP Vic.
How the hell are we gonna get out of this?

23:1691753You seem to have changed your tune Marek. Extolling the virtues of Jersey and not being in the EU. You used to be very pro-EU but is it that you have changed your mind, or are you still happy to see the UK under under the EU- dictatorship while you enjoy a good life in low tax Jersey.

As you know I voted against joining the EU but democracy rules and I had to accept the majority decision. However now living outside the EU Iam quite happy to again accept the States decision,
As for low tax rate I can't argue..usually 10%...

23:4491758Barry, Marek is a good mate of mine and I think you should give him time to get over his temporary delusions. If you see him, tell him it's only a matter of time before you need to speak Polish in Jersey to get a tap washer changed.

00:1491767Actually I am probably the foremost champion of cultural diversity in the food shops in Dover. We get ingredients everywhere, and welcome any new outlets with open arms.

07:4591775Marek - we have never had a vote on joining the EU so I really do not understand your point.
We did once have a vote about whether to STAY IN the EEC - a very different organisation to what is now the EU. Perhaps thats what you mean, if so your democracy point is irrelivent. I campaigned for a yes vote to stay in the EEC but detest the EU and would pull out.

07:5091778The referendum in the 70's to stay or pull out of EU..I should have said. I followed the Labour Party advice and voted to withdraw from the EU......I can sleep easily at nights,,

08:1891788I repeat Marek - it was not the EU, that came later - it was the EEC at the time and was very different to what it is now.
Voting to stay in was a big mistake and the only vote I have made that I regret.

08:2691793Semantics..some forumites weren't born then and don't know what the Common Market was,as it was then called. It didn't change its name til after the vote.

08:3191795On your initial post Ian, I don't think they would let me say "shoot 'em".
I just hope that those that put us in this position never get the chance to screw the country up again.
There is more than one thing wrong here and many are continued by both parties/governments.
When we came to power last year, the Conservatives should have had a referendum on whether we stay in or not and gone from there.
We pay the EU ever more of our money and we all get screwed to pay for it - it must be wrong.

08:3191796It became the EEC on the accession of the UK and a couple of other countries, before the referendum or these were changes that were known about at the time, not certain which but I think it was the former.
It is also far from semantics. There have been massive changes in the operation and role of the organisation that are reflected in the name changes, Common Market to EEC to EC to EU... The EU is a very different beast indeed to the Common Market and the EEC.

08:3491797Roger - I suspect that the time was not right for a full in or out referendum. We only want that when we can be sure of a vote to pull out and I am not sure that public opinion is yet ready for it. It will happen and hopefully when the pressure to get out becomes irresistable.

08:4191800I hope you are right Barry, but this publicity about extra EU contributions does not bode well for us.
