Congratulations to Her Majesty, the only snag is we will get Nicholas Witchell grovelling after her later on the TV just to bring his knighthood forward.

If Augusta had not been given in to ,,today the flag would have been raised above the Town Hall to celebrate this occasion .Now it flies all the time so one day is the same as another.

I wonder if the flag is flying outside the Town Hall.

As much as the woman is a pain in the proverbial backside she wasn't given in to. The large number of residents and visitors who believe we should fly our country flag with pride are the ones who were given in to. She had the support of the majority of Dover. Unfortunately the problem was the DTC with it's attitude towards the flagpole at the memorial, since then the woman is doing all she can to show up the town council which isn't exactly difficult they do it on an almost weekly basis themselves).
I think it is time we all stop talking about her and giving her the attention she craves.

Mr Barrington.I was referring to the DDC flag above the Dover Town Hall. It only used to be flown on special days .The Flag like poppy wreaths is losing its sincerity .I agree with Vic some of the posts re the Queen were un called for.

I was referring to both.
Why when every British military base and official British establishment in the world flies our nations flag permanently or daily should it's meaning be denigrated if it's flying in Dover permanently?
Augusta was right on that and had the support of the public.

The flag was only flown from Dover Town Hall on special days.DDC had a list .It was only when Augusta marched up to DDC I was there but not at the meeting when it was decided to fly it every day come what may .So now there are no special days.

I like the idea of flags flying every day and in as many places as possible, not only for their symbolism but they can also brighten a dull and depressing area.

I've got to say flag flying or otherwise has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the day is special it's surely what the occasion is that makes it the special day. The flag flying was just a cop out for the council to say they marked the occasion.
Now thanks to Augusta they have get of there shiny backside and actually do something to mark the occasion, though that seems too much effort for Dover's Councils.

I'm sorry it offends Sue bit it is representive of the sentiments of many of Dover's citizens, neither of our councils seem to understand that and they appear to do little to address it.

Allow me to butt in Reg(sorry I don't do the Mr Barrington bit) but Sue is not always good at online comments. They are sometimes blunt and get misconstrued. This leaves the online trolls a clear run to pick on her. The facts of the matter is she is very popular in her ward(sorry ex ward) because she is approachable and her long stint as Council Chairman was appreciated at the myriad of events she attended. Children in particular warmed to her.
I do understand her view on the importance of special events as today we seem to have a minutes silence for everything and this devalues things.
