I note that Reg chooses to totally ignore what I asked, sticking with his usual inanities. Impossible to get an intelligent discourse going like that. No real alternative there.
Anyone who thinks the idiot Balls, who was part and party to what created this mess we are in, holds any solutions clearly must believe in fairies and goblins.

No chance, Brown flogged it all off at the bottom of the market.

The fact is that this lot have hammered the poor, elderly and sick and that has still not helped the economy.
I wonder who they could try picking on next?

the rich have people that are paid good money to make sure that their clients are never put out, unlike the poor, sick and elderly.

More than 300,000 UK pensioners have died of cold related illnesses since 1997
"At least 3m pensioner households are currently in fuel poverty and every time there's a 1% increase in fuel bills a further 8000 people join the ranks of the fuel poor.
Around 20,000 pensioners died last year due to cold weather related illness.
Over 80% of cold weather related deaths were among people over the age of 75, with 24,000 deaths in total linked to the cold snap.

BarryW.
Be very careful of your stupid, puerile, accusations.
I have never said people should pay more Tax, I hate tax as much as you.
Again, if you read my posts properly you would understand that.
You are a real numpty.

I can quote you then Gary - you hate tax.... Good for you.
But you do seem to resent cuts to public spending...... You cannot have both. Except of course you can, high tax rates do not mean more tax, so you would agree with me about cutting top tax rates then, like the 45p (really 47p) rate and the appalling 62p rate people suffer at £100k before it gets to fall back to 42p and then back up to 47p.
Puerile, numpty eh..... you mix me up with Reg with that. Read his posts and you will see why.

Tax cuts are only good if you are like me a tax payer, those who have no choice but to be on benefits find the do rise enough to keep up with inflation, while the very low paid would prefer the tax threshold to rise to a much higher level so they no longer pay tax.
This has been said so often in the past on this forum on various threads.

Jan, I am like you a taxpayer. I also pay council tax.
What we need is less tax paid to the central Treasury, more tax to the councils, such as a percentage of income revenue.
Local Government would have more responsibilities, but could not borrow money or incur into any public debt.
It would result in more accountability.
It would create employment locally, especially if the council had to pay JSA and received no refund from the Government for housing benefit. Currently, the Treasury pays job-seekers allowance and refunds councils for housing benefit.
If the district council alone had to dish out the money (or even the county council), in return for receiving a proportion of income tax and corporate tax, they would have to ensure out of financial necessity that local people get local jobs, and in our particular case I'm thinking salad factories here, wear-houses (Margate/Folkestone), fancy box and seasonal crop gatherers.
All humble, but every penny adds up.

43/44. Fact: Brown sold much of the national reserves of gold at $300 an ounce or less.
Tonight's closing price was $1,712.
Sorry if facts get in the way Reg, but there we are.

#57 - the old childhood response to your typically sad and pathetic insults GaryC - it takes one to know one.
You are spot on there Peter. It has since been revealed that Brown was advised against this sale but ignored it, his usual pattern. It did not take a genius to see how crazy it was - I would be in terrible trouble if I had given that kind of investment advice.
