If they parked a little further away, and appropriately, and used their poor little legs to walk that distance, the roads would not be clogged. Also, what is wrong with renting a garage if you can afford it?

it is surprising that when the roads locally need resurfacing motorists seem to find a place to leave their car.

Hence my catch 22 comment, Keith.
The main problem in so many streets is that there is no where else to park even if the drivers were willing to walk. Some idiots even park unnecessarily on the pavement in our nice wide road.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It's like that in many roads in Dover, mine included. If everyone parked "properly" then service vehicles just would not get through at all. Parking half on the pavement is the only answer to avoid having the other side of the car taken out by any vehicle bigger than a Smart!
I sometimes wonder what would happen if there was a serious fire along here because the only option for a fire engine would be to bulldoze its way through.
Good job we're not on a bus route!!

may be different where you live phil but there are stacks of unused garages where i live.
ok some cars are too big too manouvre via the alleyways but if the ones that could access a garage did so most of the problem would be solved.
your second paragraph is uttered word by word every day around here.
Local reps have a Public Safety responsibility. It is their job to make sure emergency vehicles are able to access where necessary. If there were a tragedy because of the lack of traffic policing they would be culpable.

lets just nail this one now.
many years ago all the emergency services were contacted(fire services more so) and asked opinions.
whilst none were happy with the situation, none wanted anything done about it because there are as recorded above reprocussions of any such moves, which solves one problem, but juyst creates another.
the fire service did say they would and do have methods tro get to fires
a few years back in one of the back alleys which isnt very wide they ran the hose down the alley whilst leaving the engine at the end.
so before ticketing maybe we should look at the bigger picture
just a thought,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

And maybe drivers need to be more courteous and walk a little further?

bern;
im one that used the local media to highlight parents who took there children to school from eaton road to vale view(2 roads away) in the height of the school run they had an alley they would have been there walking in 5 mins quicker than by car.
if they walked the road way less than 5 mnutes would be the job,
worse having taken about 15 minutes trying to get through all the traffic, they then have to do it all again to get back home!!
the parent wasn't happy but knew it was crazy, and just sheer laziness
