# 15............Verbal abuse takes many forms: from loud rants to quiet comments; from obvious put-downs to not
-so-obvious remarks that are meant to undermine the recipient .
What all the methods have in common is the need to control; to be superior; to avoid taking personal responsibility
; and to mask or deny their own failures.;............

I see nearly every one is having a go at ukip again,
Yes some people don't like what they stand for but then some people don't like the lies that Labour & the Conservatives tell just to get the vote.
If one day in your lives you were all to work together for the good of this town then Dover would be a great town instead of all the sniping at each other.
If you were to listen to
yourselves you would understand why no one trusts you or the parties you represent you all sound like robots party leaders tell you what you want to hear then off you go and only your point matters.
Dover has been stagnant for many years because every one in our councils wants to stop the other party doing things for the town,
Leave you toys in the playground and work for a better Dover for all. Rant Over.

Well said Alan, I am sure you have pointed out why so many are turned off from politics and no longer vote.

I think Alan
had all the attacks been on labour
you would probably not say anything
or join in
The poster expelled by UKIP Dover branch obviously wanted to cause maximum embarrassment to UKIP why else would he post such a headline

Puzzled why the fact the Lib Dem candidate owns a sweet shop seems to make her unsuitable? or at least a figure of fun?

They normally pick a candidate from the public sector with no grip on reality

i suspect this candidature is mere flag flying, the yellows will target folkestone and hythe hoping that ukip will let them in by splitting the blue vote.

Howard i am not a labor or Tory supporter i am what you call a floater i listen to what all have to say then make my own mind up.
But all we here is its labor's fault its the Tories fault or the lib dems they all think they know whats best for us when in fact they only want what is best for them and not the people who vote them in.
We should not have to wait five years for elections to get rid of the party in power,
if they don't perform within the first two years then the people should have the choice to get rid.
Lib Dems will never be in power in this country on there own, and labor cant be trusted with power The Tories only look after there own,
Ukip I don't know people like what they have to say but thats not enough to run a country.
But in our town there many Intelligent Politicians who should be concentrating on local issues to make this town prosperous for now and the future of Dover if it is to have one.

Alan, I think the solution you want is called the power of recall in USA. If a politician is not performing or is behaving badly the electorate can call a vote to remove them. I thought this was a proposal an incoming Conservative Government was going to put on the statute books. Not sure it was lost in the coalition agreements.

I much prefer the fixed five year term as no government can realistically make fundamental changes where we will see a result (good or bad) in just two years.
Another advantage is they can no longer call an election whenever it suits them which is when things often look superficially good only to change for the worse a few months later.

Presumably the Queen can call a election before the 5 years is up?

Fixed term Parliaments
Quote -
The Bill fixes the date of the next General Election at 7 May 2015, and provides for five-year fixed terms. It includes provisions to allow the Prime Minister to alter the date by up to two months by Order. There are also two ways in which an election could be triggered before the end of the five-year term:
- if a motion of no confidence is passed and no alternative government is found
- or if a motion for an early general election is agreed either by at least two-thirds of the House or without division

Peter, I would imagine it would apply in the same way as Parliament. In fact they tend to apply more stringent rules to local government that Parliament tend to shy away from.
As I stated earlier I don't think it's been applied yet in any form of government.
I think the Pickles view on these type of things is that you either get them at the ballot box thru the normal cycles or go thru the courts.

i can't see how it would work in practice, manifesto promises are made but circumstances change and under a cobbled together government neither of the ruling parties would be able to live up to their pledges anyway.
