This is good news for the Seafrance staff who lost their jobs earlier, hopefully there will be some more jobs up for grabs as they are few and far between

For the moment Howard.
It has re-opened the route for another competitor. Secured their place.
Puts pressure on the administrator to deal
Great news for shore based staff.
Presumably DFDS/LD can pick & chose the seaboard staff without pressure of co-ops and dirty deals.
Good to see EuroTunnel thwarted.

Excellent news. I just hope they can acquire the vessels they need (such as the Berlioz and Rodin) and put some competition back onto the Dover/Calais route. It also provides me with a bit more flexibility getting to and fro each day.
Hopefully DFDS/LD Lines will publish a timetable before too long.

i think paul is right there the administrators cannot just hold on to them indefinitely.
they must be incurring hefty berthing fees.

on the press release they say the following...
"..... A further ferry under the French flag will be added on the Dover Strait as soon as we can be ready with a suitable ship. "
Jumping the gun and putting two and two together and maybe getting ahead of myself...there are several ferries, as mentioned above, moored up in Calais which would obviously fit that bill...so maybe they already have negotiations going on behind the scenes. Its the obvious extra ferry location. The Seafrance administrators would be willing, if the price was right of course.

I would hope so PaulB. The two ships I mentioned are relatively new and good for a number of years service.

I was under the impression that Seafrance's boats cannot be sold for a long time due to being in administration. I would have thought that the two companies would come up with a few ferries from their fleets. After all, they've already easily acquired the Norman Spirit for Dunkirk route. Good news though, all competition is good in the Port.

I understand that the SeaFrance boats cannot be used on the Dover-Calais route except with a French crew. That of course scuppers any chance of seeing them back on this route.

Great to see this news on our front page this morning. Hopefully some of the Seafrance workers will find new jobs there and a few more besides and of course another choice for all Calais travellers

DFDS/LD have stated that at present they do not plan to carry foot passengers on the Dover to Calais Route.

It was mentioned on the news this morning that there should be another ship as well in the not too distant future, good news for the former French crews.

The Calais schedule with just one vessel is no good to me at all, so the sooner they get a second one the better. My contacts at DFDS couldn't tell me anything about a second ship when I asked this morning.

The second ferry will be vital to the success of the venture, without it the LD link will last as long as their last attempt at Dover.
