Keith - I have re-examined the e-amils from the town clerk and I can't find any explanation as to why the dep wasn't available - perhaps you can enlighten me?

Sue, It seems strange that the powers that be didn't put you forward for the Dover Carnival as there was an official invite.
An opportunity missed - it's a shame.

sue will always turn up for any event if asked and she is not booked in elsewhere, quite surprised that the organisers forgot to invite the first citizen of the district.

i was chatting to the deputy mayor last sunday at the "pimms in the park" event but was not aware of the story at that time so i could not raise the subject. i don't now if you are aware that the town council withdrew funding from the carnival and the bad feeling from the carnival organisers towards the town council was abundantly clear.
i am not saying that is the reason that viv did not attend but i doubt she would have been welcomed.

Cllr Viv Revell is the manager of Triangles and this takes most of her evening work, being a Cllr doesn't pay your mortgage or rent,I was working on that day as well.as I normally steward with Stewart and close the road,I could nt this year as I was working until 19.30

Howard this is not the reason in fact one of the Carnival organisers was horrified at the recent press coverage, and when I spoke to her she said that what was said in the newspaper was not what they said and the newspaper wouldn't give them a right to respond to the article.I know the the Mayor and the Carnival organiser had a meeting recently and there is no differences, far from it the Carnival court have been told they will get some funding but as far as I know no such application has been thru the Cllrs which is now the way to apply. Each Cllr has a grant and they can give from this

there terry although im not part of the town council
john has answered your question
my point was i could see no arrogance in the e mails from the town clerk
only that the mayor/dep were not available on that day

Sue - I think that maybe the carnival organisers should perhaps look at extending their invitation list, especially in the light of what happened this year. Hopefully, someone from the organisers will read this and add your name to the list for next year.

Howard, thanks for the explanation ref funding etc - there is obviously a lot more to the situation than meets the eye.
Let's hope that it can be resolved before next year, and that maybe the carnival can get back to what it once was. I'm sure that, with a bit of imagination, things could be improved.

in my view the carnival should be put back to its old saturday afternoon slot but there were a lot of logistical problems with road closures.

Also the 2 carnivals need to sort themselves out, and move away from the mockery of 2 carnival queens etc.
also mr clear can now see had the carnival organisers prepared themselves better and invited the chair of the council they could have had someone there. that's not the councils fault

Keith, isn't it reasonable to assume that, if the Mayor is invited and can't attend, then the next most senior person who is available will attend in the mayor's place? Does the Carnival Committee have to give a long list of names just in case the mayor ad the deputy can't attend ?

Well Mr Clear (to avoid confusion) it appears that you are asking the council to put councillors in a pecking order. Given recent events that may be difficult!
