Indeed - especially given the credentials of Terry Clear, he loves Dover so much that he lives in Spain...

I sense yet another stream of ill-informed and vitriolic FB rants about the Clerk as people fail to get past the headline and actually read the correspondence. I read it when Terry posted it in full and failed to find anything actually rude or arrogant in the correspondence, however, Terry's perception of the correspondence was that it was rude and arrogant which is a totally different animal.
Many people do not like our Town Clerk and her 'no nonsense' approach, but then there are many who do like her for exactly the same thing.

"ill informed and vitriolic facebook rants" - never a truer 6 words spoken. anyone connected with a local council or newspaper would have to walk around with 666 on their forehead if the ranters had their way.

keith
on the express facebook page the vast majority of critical posts are typed from a strong position of ignorance.
most of our members learn from reading informed posts here, i am one that has learned a lot.
for example most of us are aware that the council are not paying for the proposed dtiz development and do not have an desk drawer to build a leisure centre complete with ice rink and bowling alley.

I have never had any problems with her in the 27 months I have known her.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

The panel of councillors examining the correspondence for this complaint has exonerated the Town Clerk. The complainant decides that an injustice has been done and posts that the council has 'swept it under the carpet'. As he has published the full text of all communications from the Town Clerk, it is impossible for a reasonable person to reach the same conclusion as the complainant.

HOWARD;
A few forumites probably share the same views as the facebook page looking at some postings on here
NEIL;
I'v never dealt with the Clerk so I wouldn't know what she was all about.
DECLARATIONS;
Whilst everyone wanted/wants the toilet open, I think the debate has explained both sides within this argument.

lost on this one.
a) who was the complainant?
b) who were the councillors that made up the panel?

thanks neil i am slightly baffled by the furore on this one.
i was on the same bus as ronnie on the day that the market in the charlton centre opened and she was clearly stressed out about her house move, explaining all the problems her and her husband were having. we all know about the stress involved and would concur.
i don't know ronnie well, we have probably spoken about 4/5 times for a total of about 15 minutes but it is clear that she is dedicated in her role and is very popular with people that come into contact with her.
it appears that people are gunning for the town clerk on this trivial issue with the mayor caught in the crossfire.

Paul Isles, with ref to your childish & sarcastic comment - people do not HAVE to live in Dover to love the place, or to be interested in it.
For your information I moved from Dover to Spain because of health issues - I have 3 generations of my family who were born in Dover and who all live in the TOWN - not in Maxton, River, Whitfield etc.
How long have you lived in Dover Mr Isles? when did you come down from Norfolk ?

Keith, yes the Mayor is clear of blame, and there was no finger being pointed in her direction.
However, it does seem that the council, or at least some of the members, think that there is no accountability to the people of Dover, no need to explain actions etc.

I'm not sure there were any 'actions' to be explained;ably or badly.
The question was, as far as I can tell, Why were there no Civic Dignitaries present on the day?
The answer was that none were available, due to one reason or another.
Had the question been:Why was the event not prioritised, and so inked-into the diary of one or more CD?
Alas, even so, stuff happens.
There might well have been insufficient obsequiousness employed in the official response, but perhaps the brusque nature of the query set the tone?
If only the Lord-Lieutenant had been invited, and could have attended, then all would have been well?
Anyway, lots of locals seemed to have had themselves a lovely day.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
