19:0989303our masters in brussels are proposing to bring in a tax on travel.
this covers flights, ferry crossings and cruises.
it seems unclear about rail travel so far.
not only will we pay 20% on top of our fare crossing dover/calais, but everything on board will be subject to to v.a.t. also.
wll be interesting to see our government fighting against this, or more likely not.

19:1389305The EU should not be allowed any competence over the setting and raising of taxes and this must be fought against. They are too incompetent, lacking in accountability and far too wasteful to be allowed such powers.
I am not certain if Labour handed over tax raising power to the EU when they were in power so I am not sure what the position is. I will have to find out.

19:2089306Well all I can say is vote UkIP and join the party ,and you can do that with one email to
victormatcham@yahoo.com how much more are you going to payout to a party that supports the EU.

20:1889308Supporting UKIP serves only to put power in the hands of Eurofanatics in Labout and Libdems. UKIP supports voting, working for and influencing policy in the Conservatives is a far more practical route to influence government. Otherwise you are just being self-indulgent.

20:5989312barry is more or less 100% correct vic, that is how it works but on the other hand the blues are hardly eurosceptic either.

21:1989313If there were such an increase in ferry travel but not rail travel, that could meant that the Channel Tunnel keeps the same tarifs, while the ferry tickets at Dover would go up significantly.
This could have dire consequences for the ferry operators at Dover!

21:3889316It would be interesting to know what the other member states think of the proposal. I should think it would not be very helpful to their tourism industry.

22:3889323Howard - the Conservative Party certainly is Eurosceptic, after all no avowed EU supporter has a hope of getting elected as leader. The practicalities of coalition results in a less Eurosceptic stance in government. That is the practical and real contribution to british politics made by UKIP - boosting pro-EU policies.

22:5589327alex made a very good point about how dover would be hit if the railway was not penalised to the same extent as the ferries.
barry
i suspect that you and many party activists and workers feel a certain disquiet about how things are going.
dave and nick seem to be bedfellows and seem to be committed to the european political ideal and the human(terrorist) rights act.

00:5089350But, Barry, Labour and the Libdems together got most votes in East Oldham and Saddleworth the other day. That seems to be a massive yes vote for the EU!
Of-course I was expecting UKIP to come forth. But UKIP came fourth instead!
My personal opinion is that UKIP does not do enough to communicate with the wide public. Although I do consider Nigel Farage to be a charismatic man and believe that he will get the Party in shape!

01:2789352A by-election result in a historically safe red seat makes no statement as to what the country thinks. Voting in such seats is purely tribal.

in concluision it seems that the eu have copyed g,osbournes and the condems idea of robbing the poor blind.

09:0189360Sorry Brian, that's just utter nonsense.
If you are saying that a £50 ticket will go up £10 and is a "drop in the ocean" then why all the fuss over a 2 and half percent rise in VAT - double standards there just to suit your (Labour) cause.
The Coalition are not robbing the poor at all, but are attempting to put the finances of the Country right.
You seem to forget, as every Labour supporter does, that it was Labour who got us into this mess, it was them to shafted every one of us and you are all in denial.
Everything - and I mean everything, points to 13 years of screwing up the Country and you have the audacity to blame the coalition for the ills of the country.
If Labour hadn't screwed it all up, we wouldn't have been in this mess.
People never have liked medicine - of any description.

09:4489368Brian - your 'facts' are way off. Right now the problems of this country are primarily down to the last 13 years of Labour misrule.

whilst this happens the people in brussels have a free run at ripping off people.
