The K.C.C made alot of staff cut back and some were at the top,D.D.C. done the same, and the D.T.C need to follow, they have a officer who could take over the town clerks job and does at time so on top of what she said look at the saving of some £50.000 per year,I know they would have to pay her off but it would only take a year or two to get that cash back in saving. If they had some of the £600.000+ they get taken away, they would have to make cut backs

Having dealt with employment law for many years, you CANNOT just dismiss someone
there are procedures, whether or not you like the style.

Of course Vic you know that Councillors make the policies not the Town Clerk! I have also heard from the Carnival committee who have said the story in the paper is not correct and they cant have a right of reply. They also now are making plans to get some of the money that they need.So instead of jumping to conclusions at incorrect reporting the proper Councillors are working to put it right instead of screaming Sack her.Still that is the difference between proper Cllrs and people who stand as Cllrs as attention seekers. Those who can do, those that cant talk about it.

Councillors are led by the officers who fill the vacuum left by the cllrs who are just part time in the offices

No the Town Clerk was answering the questions on behalf of the Cllrs, and as I have said the story was a non story and the problem has been resolved by the Cllrs well some of them a non story again. The story should be Town Cllrs now hand out grant money if the organisations get in touch with the Council. But Vic thinks he knows best when he got voted off years ago! The Cllrs were recently praised for doing it by Jamie Rose reporter Dover Express when he visited several clubs in the Tower Hamlets area and did features on them.Perhaps you didn't read it Vic because you were actually mentioned in the story so no interest to you!

Looking at the thread, I feel that the original comment in parts to be incorrect.
1; A town clerk(or any officer) can do a great job no matter where they may have been born
2; I have no problem with clerks/officers promoting the policies the cllrs have put into place, but it must be in line
with the cllrs policies and not her own view
3; Officers/clerks of councils speak on behalf of councils every day
4; The 2 Dover carnivals will always sadly be one of ridicule as we should only have one,(my view)

Surely it should be the Chairman of the Council(The Town Mayor) who communicates with the press or her nominated representative. If the Chairman nominated the Town Clerk their is no issue for discussion, if not then I believed she may have exceeded her remit, but then it is her job to convey and justify Council decisions to the press and public. We tend to forget that when making their decisions councillors are normally in possession of all the facts and make their decisions accordingly, when reporting those decisions it is in the interest of a 'good' story that the press may omit certain facts thereby placing the Council in a bad light.

Hi Ken
nice to see you yesterday (hope your ear drums recovered lol)
The clerk could have all the facts
we have to remember cllrs are not around a lot of the time
something that has been highlighted on here many times

# 14 ......apologies Lesley...................
Officers / Clerks to often go beyond their brief ......Officers / Clerks should only carryout Cllrs instructions /decisions
Officers / Clerks to often `manipulate` Cllrs to their way of thinking......
Cllrs in general are Officer / Clerk led......resulting in unilateral decisions / policies and when they go pear shape
their `comfort zone` is ``Cllrs when they voted made the decision ...........
Cllrs need to be ``up to speed``to be in control..............and seldom are................
