in this country it is very rare for a police officer to be shot thankfully, mostly because they are unarmed and don't pose a threat.
what would happen if they were routinely armed is that the best officers will leave and be replaced by fantasists that think life is a video game - result many more fatalities than we get now.

I agree with Jan its an over the top reply.
We also need to either;
1; Review the way the police do there job, and where the resources go
2; If we want all these police that one poster wants it comes at a big cost, would people be happy once you told them there
council tax is going up so high to pay for it

If we ever reach the point where Police are routinely armed then we have lost as a society, please do not let it get to the point where we arm them because of a total lack of resources to do the job in safety, year after year of cuts are taking the Police to breaking point.
