Indeed Gary, people seem to have incorrectly & you responded that it was not about the strike.
I'll just re-iterate neither was my original post.
It related to the original owners & personalities. They played a part.
The title states The History of Coal in East Kent.
The coalfield was started before nationalisation by the private sector.

My view is that people are free to write the history they wish to write , it is up to the audience to decide the validity of the history they are presented with . I would expect different view points and points of time would give very different perspectives if they where to write a history of an event or a person. For example a history of the conservative party of the 80s written by Micheal Hessaltine might be very different than a history of the conservative party in the 80s written by Ken Livingstone , or a history of the Britsh Empire written in the 1940s by Winston Churchil might be very different than a history of the British Empire written in 2012 by Dianne Abbott . People are free to write the history they wish to present ,people are free to accept or deny it as they wish .

Paul.
Thank you, I am well aware the East Kent Coalfield was started by the private sector.
My response to your original post was about landowner's actual contribution to our Mining History and why some are still raking in tax payers' money, even when we have no mines left.
Is it true, that the Plumtree family are receiving £170,000 every year until 2042 and if true, why are they receiving this money?

Paul.
I have been told that Charlie is getting involved with the group that are still trying to gain regeneration at Snowdown.
Sorry, put this on wrong thread.
Don't you think too much money and too much time have been spent with this project and that it is time to find an alternative site, that could be more fruitful?

The Plumtre inheritance was the reason, when leader of DDC, to instigate our membership of the CCC
(Coalfields Community Consortium ) As with all decisions to change things there was resistance but with the
support of Sandy Bruce Lockhart leader of KCC,Roger Madge Director of DDC and the enthusiastic support of
Gordon Cowan we pushed it through.
All CCC delegates from the north and midlands came down to Whitfield for our inauguration meeting.During
their stay we coached them round the East Kent Coalfields, when they saw Snowdown they were
flabbergasted/disgusted with what they saw and heard of the Plumtre situation.
During the debate in chambers the Chairman and delegates of CCC discussed the current problem of the
Miners Pension Fund being tampered with which generated much anger. The next item on the agenda was
Snowdown where they, still in angry mood critised me as leader for tolerating the Snowdown situation.I
informed them that I had only been aware of it a month before contacting them for membership.
The matter was put on the CCC agenda. Many meetings followed including SEEDA to try to solve the problem.
Alas even to this day nothing has changed and the scar of Snowdon remains in the Kent Countryside,as Paul
Aka photographs show, and the rent is still being paid.
We,DDC are still members of CCC ( under a different name now ) and Cllr Steve Manion is our delegate.

Me too - picked up my copy this afternoon, and will try and watch it later. It looks fascinating, so thanks for telling us about it Gary. There was no-where to give a donation down the Tourist Information Centre though.
