JU88 - Model progress thread...
- 6 April 2013 12:03224012Barry, as a fellow gluer let me be the first to say well done with what seems to have been a bit of a pig! One thing that has always put me off aircraft kits is cockpit glazeing, how do you do it?
I've a 1/28th Fokker DR1 (guess what colour it is!) it's a Revell kit, and judgeing by the two aweful figures that go with it I would guess that it is an early moulding - I hope I have more luck then you did!

I use Eduard pre-cut masks for the glazing. They work well but you do have to be careful when removing them as you can score the transparency if you press too hard - a big problem for me being heavy handed.
As for the Airfix Mossie - yes I would love to build it, a good kit by all accounts. I think I will stick with 32 scale though, 24 scale is just that bit too big...
I hope you get on well with that Fokker. Have you tried the Wingnut Wings WW1 aircraft yet? They are superb by all accounts, real quality builds. I might have a go myself one day....

I bought a big kit of the Preussen in an indoor market in Blackpool years ago. It is sitting under the bed waiting for me to get around to it. After your comments on Revell, I have had a quick Google (I am onboard ship) and find that it is made by Heller so that is something of a relief.

Ed - I am not a ship builder but that looks as if it will make up into an impressive model. I understand that one of the real challenges with sailing ships is in weathering the sails to make them look realistic. There is lots of help on-line for this and some Googling will bring up sites, maybe U-Tube video that will help with this.
Anyway - my next prject I have decided will be something a lot simpler, a quick and easy build. I have decide on a smaller scale jet, An Academy 1:48 F86F Sabre. My first jet, first natural metal finish and first Academy kit. An antidote to the JU88....
Here it is but I have obtained some different aftermarket markings for it.
