14 October 2010 08:2574953bringing this back on topic,reflecting on the origanal question what would the conciqences be.my intial thoughts would be asked by two questions.
1,if the eu collapses,would this bankrupt the 27 member states.
2,if so would the credit ratings for the 27 member states be down graded.
so in concluesion if the 27 member states are bankrupted it would add years of repair work for ex members.
my understanding of bankruptcy is that all crediters will be paid of at a percentage over a number of years.
may be barryw could clear these points up,[in plian english please barry].

In fact the end of the Euro, after some initial shocks, will spark a recovery in the PIGS as their currencies will be able to devalue and take some of the strain. The same as when we crashed out of EMU.
Of course they will have to get their spending under control and will have to face economic reality as well. - Brian Dixon

Here we have a situation whereby all kinds of services to the public ( us ) are being cut back, many people will be losing their jobs, perhaps even homes as a result. The Unions are up in arms ready for battle and to arrange mass protests etc. and cause all sorts of chaos. And why? Simply because we`re skint, broke, on our uppers, call it what you will and things have to be done that will be pretty unpalatable to the general public and their members. Unfortunately, there`s not a lot of option, we have to cut our costs.
The strange thing is, is that nobody, even the Unions, seems the slightest bit bothered that it`s quite ok to carry on paying umpteen million every day to our bloated friends in the EU with their continuing pay rises and massive protected pensions. You don`t see any of that lot "sharing our pain" and you never will!
If our defence budgets and all the others have to be drastically cut then let that bunch of wasters in Brussels set a good example and reduce their costs as well.
Some of our own services may then not need to be hit quite so hard and may well save a good number of jobs.
However, you dear reader, know full well that any sort of reduction in our cash gift
to the EU ain`t going to be cut any time soon and never will.

Your words, Howard, post 30. John only did as you bid him! Gave his views on the subject of the e.u. collapsing.
I also brought this argument up, John, in response to the massive spending-cuts, not only on the Forum, but nought came of it. I had been specifically asked by email what I thought of the proposed spending-cuts by DDC over the next five years. I replied that it would be better to stop benefit spending on the e.u.
I only mention the e.u. now if someone specifically brings a thread up on it, or poses a question relating to spending cuts. But, here it seems that your requested view, John, ..... is the same as mine and many others!
We must be a minority, what!
But I would state, if we in Dover could at least get a roof on top of that church building near the Town-Council, may-be the e.u. will collapse or even not, but at least the church-masonery wouldn't rot and collapse!
I wonder what visitors to Dover think of us on seeing that building, in the town-centre and all!
