MERCHANT NAVY DAY 2011
***********************
The Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Nicholas, with the Kent Branch of the Merchant Navy Association, is organising a special service at Dover Town Hall for Merchant Navy Day on Friday 2 September, and all are welcome to attend.
Standard bearers will march into the Town Hall from 10.30am, where there will be a Service of Celebration. The service will be followed by an address from Donald Hunter, the Chairman of the Kent Branch of the Merchant Navy Association, and a closing address from the Chairman of Dover District Council.
An official wreath laying ceremony for civic heads, standard bearers, Merchant Navy Association representatives, and other members of the community is also being held at the Merchant Navy War Memorial on Dover seafront from 12.30pm.
Below is a picture from the seafront ceremony last year..

I hope it is a good day - they usually are.
A fitting tribute to our Merchant Seaman - present and past.
I won't be able to attend this year as I am in William Harvey virtually all day for a check-up.

Dont forget this event is on today at both the Town Hall and the Seafront. I myself am popping along the seafront to watch it unfurl and take a few pictures. Always a very good event.
!0.30 Town Hall
12.30 Seafront
although always wise to get there a bit earlier.

I wonder how many of those just passing by wondered what was going on.
I see the board, to the left on the wall, is full of information as per usual..................NOT

sue;
i think on this one i share jans view
there are many Dover folk that for whaever reason dont buy the local papers or go on the forum, so they wouldnt know.
as jan says theres a good notice board right outside the town hall ideal to advertise such an event
just a suggestion

If I did not read the forum I would have had no idea what was going on, I would have guessed it might something to do with the sea because of the uniforms.
What is the point of those boards if they are never used, they might as well be taken down. Those boards should have a list of events that concern the Town Hall and if they are open to the public.
