This war as I call it has been going on to long beween the two groups even when I was on the town council it was all coming up at town and events meetings ,if Dover whats and needs a carnival let it be just one and one only the way it is happing at this time is just showing the town up if a carnival can only put on seven floats it should not be aloud to go ahead there should be no less then 15 to 20 and mixed beween Companys floats and public ones and have music.

It was dreadful even one of the floats lights were out also they had the barriers in the wrong place at the end of Ladywell it came to a holt for 10 minutes while they waited for stewards to move them.It was a disaster from start to finish. Most people did not know it was on about 15 people in the street. Why does Dover put themselves in the spotlight and fail.

You right it should not have gone ahead Dover must stop this now we have some great events in Dover but one like that can kill them off overnight.

The time slot for traffic disruption made me laugh 16.00 until 21.00 at least someone has a sense of humour. This last so called parade has I think proved my point that carnivals have had their day in Dover, if they were even remotely like the Nottinghill Carnival people would turn out to watch it......even in the dark.

If thats all it was then i,m glad i didnt bother. We was going to watch but the missus decided it would be much nicer to have a walk down the pier which was what we did.

Looked at Dover Express today about the carnival the photos bare little resemblance to what I saw.
There was seven floats and nobody walking beside them. All I can think of is they all went home
Half way through even the Mayor did not turn up that's how rubbish it was.

As I have already wrote this started when I was on the town council years ago there was just one group at first and then they had a big row and that is why we have two now, we said at the time the council can only support the main group with any funding ,but the group keeps going just to let the other group know they also will run a carnival I told them years ago to give it up and join up again and work to make one good carnival. They will not do that,so it is all a mess now.

She knew the carnival was on ?My son and I was not invited but we still went.
The local rag said there was a mix up with communication with her mother and
Miss Scott.Thats a poor excuse. As for being better next year how would they
Know if they could not be bothered to go.We was standing in Ladywell and it
Was a total fiasco.

i feel sure you not what i mean, of course she could have gone, for all i know she might have.
she can only go as mayor if officially invited which means that she wears the bling and the town sergeant goes with her to protect it.

Yet again we have those who I can only describe as pathetic ego trippers thinking about themselves rather than what is best for the town and its image.
edit....I mean the organisers not the Mayor

Protect her from what ?.Crowds I don't think so.She knew the carnival was coming up
So why did she not make sure her invite was ready that's part of her job.I don't know
Why Dover has a mayor it's embarrassing that the few things they should attend they
Can't be bothered to be there.Dover is a shambles it wants a good shake up.

For the Mayor to turn up she has to be invited as Mayor, she as a 'normal' person could turn up.She has never been invited by this Carnival Court I can confirm this as I was talking to the Mayor's Secretary before she retired.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

The chain is worth thousands of pounds, and the Town Sergeants job is to protect the Chain and not the Mayor. If the Mayor was going to Calais and she fell in the sea the Town Sergeant's job would be to dive in after the chain and not the Mayor! It is of course a symbol of the Antient Town and Port of Dover

Ah so, 'buoyancy' is a factor in choosing a Mayor then John?

I first came across the signs for the carnival coming back from 'up north' and thought it was an error date wise, I then completely forgot about it & was held up for about ten minutes and immediately joined the rear of the procession. I finally became a carnival princess

The Dover express describes it as "The big parade".
