How would you feel
- 25 August 2012 21:53188537I try to stay out of talks about the Government,but this one has hit home hard,I will be puting this posting on both the forums.
Yes how would you feel if when at school and after the only thing you ever wanted to do was join the Army,so you go for it and after a time you make it,you do all the training and after about a year you have to go in the front line of a war,six months at a time,and you do this for some years doing from one war to the next one you are fighting and geting a medal or even more then one.And you are awarded as a distinction as a soldier.And this is all you wanted to do in your life,so you are still only about 26 or 30years old, still 15 years as a good soldier to go by now you might even be a .n.c.o, or higher very good at the age of 26.And now not only are you going to war as a good trained soldier,you are teaching others to do want you have done from the day you join up,So oneday you get a letter from the M.O.D. you might still be fighting overseas or just come back from doing that,or even in a hos pital bed,because you have been shot,but you know that one day you will get better and out again,doing want you love best serving in the Army. Anyway you open this letter you got from the ministry,you might be thinking it will be about your next posting,or a thank you and hope you get out soon and return to your duty,but no it is none of them is a letter telling you Thank you very much for what you have done but we do not need you now you are REDUNDANT,YOU WILL YOUR BACK PAY ,AND ANY Money the ministry will pay you amounting to how many years you have done,and that might be less then 6years or ten. You are very upset about this,the letter goes on to say we have had to do this because the army is reducing its numbers,again thank you and good bye.
And this is happening now by the week 1000s are going even the younger ones. But that not end of our story "O NO" You get home with a few bob in you pocket but no job you might even have a family to feed,in a few case,s even their home goes. So you siting at home and what is the first thing you might do,you turn on the TV and what is the very first Advert you see it is the army recruiting for young persons to join up,and in some case,s it is the very same advert you saw when you join up.
How bad can it get,and JUST THINK how you would feel if you was that ex fully trained still young and fit for service man ,who loved what he did,What a way to repay him or her. I feel sick inside reading about it. Ex Army Vic Matcham

26 August 2012 10:34188627I am with you on this Vic, it is ludicrous to make trained service personnel redundant and then advertise for new entrants; unless of course the exercise is about cutting short term costs rather than the myth of efficiency. Having said that there will always be a need to bring in fresh recruits as serving personnel reach the end of their tours and retire, but surely if the best way to reduce overall service numbers is to reduce recruitment so the numbers leaving at the end of their term exceeds the new entrants.
As an aside I do however think that their are valuable lessons that need to be applied from recent conflicts, namely T.A./reserve medical teams provided significantly enhanced care and survival outcomes compared to the regulars medical units and consequently perhaps the bulk of military medical care should be transferred to the T.A./reserve units and the NHS; also global logistics firms such as Eddie Stobart and TNT provided a much more cost effective service at delivering general supplies to rear echelon areas than the military service corps/units did, again perhaps this outsourcing should become permanent, freeing up service personnel for more specialised duties.
Finally, I do feel that our service personnel have been ill served since the Falklands conflict, being used to bolster and defend US imperialism and commercial interests around the globe through involvement in places we have little or no interest in and frankly no need or right to be there."Dream as if you'll live forever. This way it is clear our soldiers are unlikely to be sent to places such as Syria.
We can't afford it, Vic, neither in human costs nor in financial spending terms.

Matters concerning Defence policies need understanding, and there are times when it's better to accept a wise decision. The Government knows what they are doing.
People are more concerned about National security, not the idea of soldiers doing their tour of duty in faraway wherever-stan on the grounds that it's "what they like doing".
Gov. has decided British soldiers will be pulling out of Afgun, so that should explain why there is a troop reduction, so we don't get sucked up again in these places.

It's called disengagement, and unfortunately the process takes many years.
Gov. never again wants a situation where we have 13,000 troops in a foreign country being shot at for 10 years.
We must support Gov on this one.
If ever we need an enhanced Home Army, the Government could recruit soldiers when needed, but the idea of a stand-by army ready to be sent in to every other war-ridden state to police other people's territories is simply something that needs to be tackled by the roots, and Gov. earned my full respect on this issue!
The Army of the future on Britannia's Isles is one where willing soldiers march with a spade on their back, learn to dig a garden and plant crops, and are prepared to fight for Britannia's Shores if needed.
All this talk about "soldiers wanting to go on a tour to Afgunistan" is mumbo jumbo.

- 26 August 2012 23:59188730The point that Vic is making, and which i am in agreement with him on, is that young soldiers who have been trained and who have battle experience having served their country well are getting redundancy letters as a 'thank-you' whilst the government continues to recruit new young men and women for the armed forces. This is what's wrong.
Only this evening I have seen 3 adverts recruiting for the army. It is not right to be making men and women redundant in the midst of their army careers whilst running a national recruitment campaign via print, radio and TV. Nothing new, governments and politicians of all shades have done it throughout the centuries, but that doesn't make it right. - 27 August 2012 13:07188784As Ian said I am sorry to say again that post 17 is rubbish like the ones he has said before it.I know the work Ian is doing so he can not say lot even if he wanted to,I have worked in the same place but only as a contactor I did like working there but the work we done only lasted 3weeks. And also thank you Mr Wiggins for your post and yes you hit the nail on the head.I think this is the first time we have been on the same side sir.
