Looking around social media it makes Dover people look like ingrates, very rare to see anything positive said about the new facility. There is no doubt that Buckland hospital was earmarked for closure which would have left us nothing.

Perhaps that's because they thought they were getting a hospital but now realise they've got a (very nice) out-patients clinic?

I find it hard to believe that people thought a town the size of Dover would get a full blown general hospital. Would have been nice to see it have a birthing unit for local mums to be though.
About 4 years back I was down for a procedure known as "camera up the khyber" sorry to be technical, it involved a 3 and half hour round trip journey to see a consultant for 5 minutes then a week later the same time again to see a nurse who explained what would happen. A year later the same thing was repeated with the camera going the other way.
From now on the first two legs of the journey will be done the same day at Dover hospital with only the procedure elsewhere, this will happen with many other procedures.

The move to the new building has meant a backwards step for blood tests. No longer can you book an appointment, you have to turn up and take a ticket means you have to right-off half a day just for a 2 min procedure. They changed it too an appointment system because the turn up and wait one was not working

I didn't find it a problem Reg. I have to have monthly blood tests. I normally chose 10.50 as it was the first one after tea break and was always prompt.
I turned up last week at 10.40 and my number (96) was called at 10.50! There were only two people after me. There were one or two minor teething technical problems with the phlebotomy room but nothing that couldn't be sorted.
I'll report again next month. Off to the rheumatology clinic this afternoon, I'll see how that goes.

On umpteen occasions we have tried to book blood tests and found nothing available within a week. So we usually go to K&C and take a deli ticket.

Its so far short of being a hospital its farcical. I have seen doctors surgeries better equipt.

Just back from BHD. My appointment was for 15.10 but I got there early to watch the comings and goings (reminds me of a certain diary!).
In half an hour there were only two for blood tests, it's now open until 16.00 by the way.
I was out by 15.50 and that included x-rays. As a polyclinic it's first rate but it's not a hospital. It's also not as far to walk!

My partner has monthly tests for the same reason, it was her conversation with Jackie that raised the concern, she will be pleased that it seems to be running smoothly.
Thanks for the info terry.

I have a PSA blood test every three months at Buckland and have never had any trouble booking an appointment. I always get in the next day after the telephone call. I always turn up early and invariably get called in straight a way. In and out before my appointment time sometimes.
Thanks for the info. regarding opening times Terry. I rang the old number (222656) today to make an appointment but got no reply. I shall just turn up on Friday.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are very busy. Afternoons are best Alec as they are quite slack. Say hello to Joanne for me, at least you will give her something to do!
Go in the main door and turn left. You'll see the ticket dispenser, a notice saying "Blood Tests, take a ticket" might help!

There are a number of basic signs that are missing, blood tests being one of them. Once through the "Outpatients" doors I should have turned right for the examination rooms but there is no sign saying so.
Early days yet, but it should have been thought about before.

My understanding of Buckland was that consultations would take place there and procedures at one of the big three hospitals.
Not so, my GP referred me for a colonoscopy and I received a phone call today to say that an appointment had been made for me at the William Harvey and that Buckland will not be doing such consultations.
Looks like we have been conned.

On a positive note, I can re-assure Howard that the unit at WHH is first class (and new) I attended for an appointment with consultant and when decision made about next step, appointment made there and then for proceedure to take place a few weeks later. Is a new unit I understand.

That is all very well Pam but for those that rely on buses it can be a 5 or 6 hour round trip to see a consultant for 10 minutes.
No problem with actual procedures being done in the major hospitals.

Surely a colonoscopy is a procedure rather than a consultation?
