It is shocking how often I hear similar stories to Howard's and Roger's, so it is not just in Kent. I have also heard of quite a few people who have properly cancelled/rearranged appointments only to get a letter telling them they have been discharged because they failed to turn up for the original appointment.

Some time in November a chap phoned to make an appointment for me at BHD for 09.00 this Friday. I was a bit surprised as previously I was told it would be at the QEQM.
Thursday last week a letter arrived reminding me about the appointment. The following day I had an automated phone call to "remind" me that the appointment was for 14.15 at the WHH!. After several attempts to call back the clerk blithely told me that the clinic at BHD closed last year! So why the letter I ask?
Anyway, never mind that. How about this?
A friend has advanced prostate cancer. He already has had three inplants. and is due for another (although he may have to pay for it himself). He has had a letter making a appointment for 12.30 at a date in March. Where he wondered? Reading the letter again it seems that the consultant will phone him at home at that date and time for the consultation!
Is this something new?

Even Franz Kafka couldn't have made that one up, Terry.
