Homeless person found dead and was not in home? Now there's a surprise. Personally I blame Mrs Thatcher.
We seem to have very short memories. I can remember in the 80s when I was working from an office near Southwark Bridge walking through Cardboard City - picture below - nice isn't it? With exception of North Korea I'm at a loss to know a country which does not have a homeless problem................

It must stop people just turning an eye to this , dead people in streets etc its unreal. The police come and undertakers clear up and everything back to normal as if nothing happened and no-one cared. Bless this man and those who die on our streets

That is exactly the same for those who die alone in their own home, it should never happen but it will and nobody takes any notice which is even worse.

It is always convenient to blame councils who do their best with limited funding. I don't know the circumstances and history of the deceased but in the past we have found that a small minority cannot be helped and are deemed to be intentionally homeless.

There are many agencies that try to help those who find themselves homeless, including DDC; the latter have been working for some time to address the problem in the district. However, it is a difficult problem to address, in part due to negative reactions by the majority of the public, as well as distrust of authorities on the part of the street homeless. There is a much larger, generally hidden problem of those who don't have a home but manage somehow to sofa surf round friends & family; of course this makes life difficult for them as they struggle to get help with no permanent address.
It is a sad fact that there is a small percentage of homeless people who do not want a permanent home/roof over their heads; this doesn't mean we should do nothing for them but we need to find a solution that helps both them and the rest of us...

Do you have any factual details to support that rant?

I will join you in damning the authorities if it can be shown that this death is their fault, but until the coroner reaches a conclusion I think we should be a little more circumspect

We passed by early this morning and saw 4 police vehicles there and what was obviously a body under a sheet in the shelter opposite the Premier Inn.
Very sad. Nobody should die alone like that.

It's awful and sad that in modern britain people are still suffering! Thoughts go out to the man and friends, family affected by this. Finland has solved the homeless problem maybe it's time we copied what they're doing their program is called 'Housing First'

It would be sparsely populated with 75% of the country covered by forests. I don't see a connection with religion or nationality.

He died that enough whether he died of anything he died on streets so someone responsible Howard either way. Or is it we choose how a person dies to say 'aint my fault'. Drugs, drink, mental health or sheer down on luck somewhere someone is responsible or do the Police just drive past in freezing weather watching these poor souls lay there or anyone else?
