Surprised me when I was looking at the Ashford prices
Doesn't make sense as 10 years ago a week ticket was costing me about £90 from Margate to Victoria for a week ?
Been nice knowing you :)

23:1327246Roger - cutting out one of the Folkestone stations would reduce the travel time from Dover to Ashford by a maximum of 4 minutes.
What bothers me is despite stopping at 2 stops less the scheduled running time from Dover to Ashford is only 1 minute less than the mainline services that stop everywhere.
My suspicion is that the current high-speed and mainline timetables will not last beyond mid January at which time we will see at least one train doing the trip in 59 minutes from Dover as well as the re-introduction of through services from Ramsgate via Dover to Charing Cross

07:1927254Thanks Ross.
I understood from reading some report, that the time could be reduced to just under an hour, with cutting out one of the Folkestone stations, maybe there's another time saving somewhere else.

13:2327283There are many plans at Folkestone West to produce loads of car parking outside the station
(Omuch to the dismay of locals) as the railway is likely to charge £2-50 a car where as the surrounding roads wiull be free(so guess where all th commuters will go? yep free parking!!!
So theres still a lot of taklking to be done on that, I do wonder about the need for the Central and West needing to have stops for the high speed link, as they are so close together, but hey there you have it.
As Iav said before well done to everyone MP;, cllrs individuals etc for getting the high speed rail link, without EVERYONE fighting for it, it would not have happened.
SUE
On the issue of the Shepherdswell train stop, if you could get me any details on this i would be happy to write in or join any campaign as i need to use this route daily as will many others.
We can be on the same side again lol(no hats though lol)

13:5927286The issue of car parking at the stations is one that is exercising many minds at the moment, I suspect that there is likely to be a move by SDC & DDC to put parking restrictions in place on roads around all 3 stations as well as efforts by Southeastern and the councils to develop dedicated parking facilities, at a price to the commuter of course. This will be good for local residents, but not so good for commuters, unless we also see either improved co-ordination between Southeastern and Stagecoach &/or maybe the introduction of some sort of Park & Ride shuttle service.

07:0327312I would like to think that those in authority would clean up the bridge area of its ever-growing weeds and clear that area of them and at least smarten up the station building and surrounding area until the propsed changes are put in place.
When we have the high-speed train, there may well be people coming down to try out the journey and see what the surrounding area, as well as the wider part of Dover, is like. Perhaps with a view to moving here; living in Dover - by the sea, with our history, as we all know, is great.
Wouldn't it be better than nice, more like essential, to have the surrounding area looking good ?
There is to be a Multi-Agency meeting next week to start the ball rolling on getting the Priory part of the ward improved - on every aspect.
We need a few quick wins to gain momentum of this initiative and to make instant improments and I'm sure that every one who knows this area, also knows of the quick wins necessary.

I have confidence in thee lad but not with the out of towners don't give a toss how much will it cost politically correct health and safety nimbo's that attend these meetings. You live on Flk Rd and have a deep seated love and desire for the area to be improved but why oh why does everyone from the nightwatchman to the BR Managing Director have to attend a put their tuppence worth in.Whatever happened to delegation and responsible decision making without having countless meetings and consultations.

It is sad that people have got to this way of thinking, Sadly we do need to involve all those who have responsibility for that area.
I hope if Roger is attending he doesn't just go there for nice cup of tea, but goes there shouting for all of us who are frustrated at what these people are not doing to make the area a better place.
I know Roger will do his bit, but it does mean a lot more banging the table and not just accepting, well thats the best we will get.
Roger im looking to you now to report back on here at a ;later date that it went so well millions or thousands are going into this project, all spent on the area and not study after study telling us what we already know

Its a tremendous burden for Roger but thank God we have people like him and others that never tire about beating Dovers drum. Give me 6 months of dictorship and then see how things could change....lol I would even make a decision or two a trait unknown in Dover.

19:1527369much as i wish roger all the best, the term "multi agency" fills me with foreboding.
it relies totally on getting 100% concensus, becomes more difficult, the more agencies involved.

19:3627377There is a strong commitment from DDC officers in the Community Regeneration department and I've been assured that they don't want it to fail either.
We also of course need a commitment from those various agencies, that we can contact them and get a response at that time, not 3 hours or 3 days later.
I live on the Folkestone Road and represent those living here too, so I want it to succeed as much as anyone.
