11:3227113Here, here, er...here!
Starts in a few weeks from Dover, after the tunnel work is complete I presume.
I know there are three early morning trains from Ashford already - maybe they will simply extend these down here?
St Pancras here we come!

16:4027126Andrew there's a couple of pictures of our transport enthusiast and guru Nigel Collor who sadly is a wee bit too much of a high flyer nowadays to contribute on here. ...him being KCC representative, DDC representative and to top it all Tory Chairman. Although we may coerce him now and again as he is still a member. These pictures were sent over by the man himself several months ago after he had made the inaugural trip to St Pancras on said train and very exciting it was too by all accounts.
I remember the night it was announced that the train would be coming to Dover, we had a grand impromptu party at the oul White Horse, and establishment you are familiar with!

..we had a few oul jars that night..Ah heady times they were so they were.

16:4927128makes a pleasant change for something to happen before it is planned to.
pity that the station will not live up to the train for some time yet.

18:1227144Sadly that's very true Howard. I believe the delay has been caused by Network Rail.
There was to be some "Public Realm" works done before December, but certainly and sadly, won't be completed before September.
Great about the trains though, maybe there'll be greater impetus to improve the properties on the Folkestone Road - they certainly it.

19:2227148i doubt it roger, some of the owners live so far away and visit so rarely that they would be unaware of the new trains.
the "public realm" works were supposed to have been completed over 3 years ago, let alone before december.

21:5327162This is the press release form Southeastern
High speed preview reaches Dover and Ramsgate
Southeastern today announced the expansion of high speed preview services to Ramsgate, Canterbury West, Dover Priory, Folkestone Central and West. The new services will start from 7 September.
Charles Horton, managing director, Southeastern, commented, "We always hoped we could expand the preview service and thanks to the success of the first weeks we are now in a position to do this. We want as many people as possible to be able to experience the service before the full timetable is introduced in December."
There will be two morning peak services from Ramsgate via Canterbury West and two peak services from Dover Priory via Folkestone Central and Folkestone West, returning in the evening peak. All the new services will also stop at Ashford International, resulting in an additional peak service on top of the current three trains to St Pancras International.
An off-peak return train is also being introduced between St Pancras International and Ashford International via Ebbsfleet. Trains from Ebbsfleet International will continue to have six morning peak services to St Pancras International and seven services back in the evening peak. Throughout the day, services run twice hourly between Ebbsfleet International and St Pancras International. All the services will continue to run Monday to Friday.
The new services will radically improve journey times, for example saving 49 minutes on the average commute from Ramsgate and 47 minutes from Dover.

06:4327179I can't believe that Folkestone still has two schedule stops - Central and West. This is crazy, for such a small Town as Folkestone, crazy for any Town in a High-speed scenario.
The slower trains can stop twice there, but it is crazy to have a fast-train stopping twice in the same Town - madness.
Somebody somewhere must stop this - it can also of course decrease the length of time from Dover to London by about 10 minutes or so, taking the time down to just under the magic hour if there's only one station to stop at.
Just because it's historic and a fact that there are two stations, it doesn't/shouldn't mean the train has to call at both of them.

08:3527197It's good news for Dover about the HST but I agree with Roger that it is bizarre that Folkestone should get two stops. The argument is something about car parking but it will add time to the journey to Dover and is probably more about lobbying by better connected people.

09:3527200There was always going to be an issuie about Folkestone .Folkestone West is a very busy station and if you look at the catchement area it serves its no wonder they want it to stop there .The residents of Hythe Sandgate to name but a few .It was all to do with parking .The last I heard Dover has got to sort out its parking problems for all these extra people travelling to St Pancras ??
Meanwhile we with a Victoria line service have to fight the battle as thay are going to reduce the trains stopping at Shepherdswell and Kearsney .
Always something to fight for .

12:3627210The prices worry me. £55.10 return! I hope railcards can be used with that - still around £37.
It will surely be cheaper to upgrade an existing mainline return ticket.
Given that the latest train departs at 07.42, I won't be making any pleasure jaunts until the full service comes onstream!
Well done Nigel and co for fighting for this.
How many commuters will move here now? Surely they will want to live close to the the station - why live at Whitfield and add 15 mins plus parking fees to your journey? Defeats the object.

13:4327211Andrew - I think if you look at a weekly ticket the daily cost goes down a lot.
