26 June 2011 13:53111906I had a great day yesterday at the events in Pencester. Congratulations to every one involved Barry, Ian, all the young cadets from the various units and all the artistes who took part. I met a few forumites, Nigel, BarryW (for the first time), Ian of river fame, Chris Precious and family and our MP Charlie, I didn't bump into Howard, we must have been there at different times.

the main man handing out an award for a competition where two teams of cadets vied to be first to erect a tent from scrathch, the reverse the procedure. judging by the effect of the sun it will be "red barry" from now on in.

The Help For Heroes stall this year raised £467.31 beating last years figure and I could have sold more if I had the gear.

a very good tap dancing duo who later were part of a larger act.
these 3 girls entertained us regally, unfortunately i only caught the first part of their name "polka dot then something".

A couple of mine:
The Dover ATC Band - they may have lost the tent competition but the Marine Cadets don't have a band...
Here is a shot of the finale with the Swingtime Sweethearts. What was great was that we still had a substnntial crowd, more so than usual, right to the very end.
A big thank you to all who attended and supported us.
We have had some great new people join us and the show will evolve yet again - onward and upwards to keep it fresh.
There is also some big news coming up - a very exciting suggestion was made to us that we have agreed to proceed with and once we have ironed out a few points I hope to make a big announcement soon. i attended 4 different times over the two days and it was clear that people were totally engrossed with the music and dancing.
unless you got there early forget about getting a seat despite there being a lot more than in the past.
all the acts responded with great energy to the enthusiastic audience.
you mentioned to me on saturday about the possible event coming up, but made it clear under pain of death that i could say nothing.

We very much enjoyed talking to people on Sunday doing interviews and collecting peoples memories of life in WWII and in the forces afterwards and how Dover was at the time. Thank you for some great photos Howard - love the ones of the singers and performers. I have used the ones you took of the DCR crew on our facebook page and will put on our website with your permission - thanks for doing them.
