I think there is a need for a helicopter pad ,or call it a port in Dover ,where could it be put,? my plan would be the old Borstal site that would link up Dover to London and France for members of the public that need to get to London without any waiting time also a link for the c/liners that use the port of Dover and there are many other use,s for a Helicopter pad ,it would bring more work to Dover etc,Dover must keep up with the times.

There are two, one near the Castle and one at Farthingloe Farm.

They are only used by the landlords and not for public use ,and you know that .and I am thinking along the lines just more than a pad

I doubt many of Dover's inhabitants or local business men have or even have the use of a helicopter so there is no need for another designated landing spot.

That would be great but the images I have seen of their yachts they already have a helipad on them, oh to be that rich.

I seem to recall seeing The Duke of Yorks school having there own helipad whilst perusing google earth one evening.
Is that the one you meant that's near the castle?

Whilst I’m not currently living in my home town of Dover, I do intend to return sooner or later. I’ve been following the ‘bus’ thread and others - but cannot for the life of me understand why it takes so long to promulgate (lovely word), a time table and publish it, and post it at the bus stops is beyond me! Surely the bus company know when their services are running? Then even simpler to produce a PDF file, print it out, then get someone in the office to drive down the route and display it! But then I’m of a ceratain age, and what do I know? Just a thought!

I couldn't agree more. I use the buses pretty much daily along with other contributors on here. There is no choice - it's either Stagecoach or Stagecoach. They run a virtual monopoly. They are sloppy and indifferent to acceptable standards of customer service too often. Phone and complain - they'll just say that they are the only company with the infrastructure to run such a comprehensive service. This is true to a point but KCC to whom they should be accountable seem unconcerned about public transport. They've been sold up the river by this government in terms of funding but still continue to bleat the Tory line. We get what we vote for, I suppose.

Must confess that I only use the bus service when I’m in Dover. Here in South Norfolk my buss pass is virtually useless with just 2 buses a day into Diss or Norwich at ungodly, unsuitable times. But hey, the time tables are available at all the stops - long before any changes are made. It’s oh so simple for Stagecoach to get it right. I speak as an ex Powell CP school boy (1951-57),and of course we always got it right!

Stagecoach are an unaccountable public service monopoly. They're unaccountable because they have only KCC to report to. KCC are so obsessed with the privatisation (being a Tory Council) model that they will never countenance the prospect of bringing public transport under state control. Bit like water and rail. But, as I said, you get what you vote for.

Coming down to Dover for trip on one of the big ships now coming in the port ,doing it by Helicopters would be so easy for the well off +They can see the whole port the Castle and the cliffe from above before they sail off .
There a few of this kind of pads in London and one could even go to work and get there on time in a short time and back home again.
