10:2375402Even though forumites tear each others' entrails out on-line, they are always, in my experience, civil to each other face to face. Forum behaviour often degenerates into a kind of cyber-rage in which the virtual anger does not exist in the real world and disappears as soon as you are off-line.
Phil Eyden also hit the nail on the head with his old signature line: 'Never post after the pub.'

To a point i share your view I am always civil to Barryw and Paul W doesn't take much to be nice.
On here though, things do get a little personal, I even tried a little while ago to show subjects barryw and I shared to take the heat out of some postings as it got far to personal and serious.
I'm all for as many people postings as poss, and whether i agree or not everyone should have that right, but we should avoid being offensive(in my view)
The forum is a good one, it does tend to get bogged down at times but thats part of open debate.
We won't always agree, but we must be able to disagree

11:1675431There's always a danger that if someone is nasty on-line and charming face-to-face, people will regard him/her as two-faced. A bit like journalists who schmooze up to you for information and then tear you apart in print or drop you in the poo by quoting off-the-record background.

Reading through recent postings I note that the members club idea has been resurrected with restrictions on posting on certain topics without permission. This form of censorship as set out by a member who ‘left’ the forum some while ago, will unfortunately not encourage these non posters back onboard.

I don't want to derail the topic about Howard so I'll reply here - there are no restrictions as you describe, I think the post from Keith has just been misunderstood. When Howard was unwell we obviously wanted to respect his privacy so we just kept a few regulars/closer friends updated rather than posting on the forum. The new thread for people to pay tribute is open for anyone to add their comments.

Thanks Chris,
And yes its correct respect for Howard and his friends and family were top of the agenda.
yes getting back to this thread I did leave 3 years ago still disagreeing with the seperation of the politics from the main part of the forum.
but the forum is a useful tool to inform one of many
and i took Garys post and have returned after the 3 years

I have never understood the problem with separating the politics side of the group, I amalgamated the main and politics after a little while so got them both.
The trouble back then was that there were so very many political posts that they dominated the group and were putting some off visiting as often, me included.
