Rick Jones,
You ask "what does it matter how our meat is killed" I suppose the end results are the same how ever it is killed. You completely miss the point it is not how our meat is killed but rather why??
After decades of humane slaughter methods (have to confess I do not know procedures in abbotiars) why all of a sudden are muslim methods of killing our meat suddenly respectable?? Lets put the record straight here. muslim methods are not acceptable, never have been and never will be.
Muslims represent 2% of the british population and yet they seem to be able to impose there will on the other 98% , Why??
It is about time that this country kicked Trevor Philips in the arse and tell him just what he can do with his racial equality.
I am not afraid to say that I do not like muslims,to me they represent a threat to our way of life and should be resisted at all costs,in all fairness I also do not like the english, scots, irish, welsh, french, germans, dutch, arabs, etc, etc, etc, and all those east of dover. Have to confess to having a soft spot for Americans

Jimmy, "it is not how our meat is killed but rather why??"
It is killed so we can eat it mate.
Can't imagine why you are fond of the friendly fire specialists.

I also have a soft spot for the Americans, but it is at the bottom of the garden and smells a bit in the hot weather.

Bern, even being an atheist I have been making a similar distinction between religion and faith for years.
Sid, if as you say (and I can well believe it) we are destined to become a minority it would make this the right time to scrap the ridiculous and outdated blasphemy laws. Any of the changes proposed over the years to include Islam and others into them would eventually have the effect of making it illegal to not follow a religion.
I must ask why the sudden fuss over halal meat when kosher meet, using the same methods but different blessings, has been produced here for years.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Sid Perkins, Would you prefer that I give my loyalty to a race who are sworn to eradicate our christian beliefs?? I dont think so.
Your observations about how or why our meat is killed "So we can eat it mate" are bordering on the childish and I am trying hard not to be impolite
Chris, it's the modern day "reds under the bed" syndrome methinks.
Once again I see the words "race" and "racism" being used in a discussion about Islam. Another Islamic tactic to distract us. Islam is NOT A RACE - it is a BELIEF. Nobody is born Islamic and Muslims can choose to be Islamic or not. People are born black, white, tall, short, dwarf, handicap, etc. Nobody is born a Muslim. How the hell is it "racist" then to challenge a man-made belief system?
I also believe that "Islamophobia" is a myth. A phobia is an irrational fear of something (such as spiders or heights) but as we all know - let's call a spade a spade here - Islam is a dangerous cult that is largely intolerant of other cultures and does represent some level of threat. As such, the fear of Islam is hardly irrational. I'd argue that it is perfectly rational to worry about a religious force that seeks to expand itself and wipe out competitive cultures.
Now, where's my pork pie gone?

The Koran is full of injunctions to kill non-believers and they are used by extremists to justify terrorism, but then so to is the Bible; how many died over "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live"? I am sure Muslims would argue the same of christianity and hark back to the crusades.
To paraphrase an old quote, 'it is not gods that kill it is people with gods'.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Yeah - so get rid of ALL those stupid gods! Atheism is the ONLY real religion of peace ever!
Rick Jones,
you would be well advised not to tell the immam of Findsbury park mosque
that people who are muslims can choose to practise another religion.
Any muslim who so wishes, runs the risk of having a Fatwa taken out against them. The koran forbids muslims leaving the "Faith" on pain of death,a punishment put into practise in many muslim countries it is only a question of which is the bigger crime?? A desire to practise another religion or adultary??
I' have a faith and I expect you to respect it '
Sorry Bern, happy to tolerate but not respect.-An important difference IMHO?
Rick Jones,
For a person who is an athiest you sure are passionate about your beliefs, a form of religion perhaps??
Sid Perkins,
I am fond of the "friendly fire specialists" simply because they are british.
Why only this week our side killed a british soldier in a friendly fire incident
when a smoke bomb fell short, or have'nt you heard of that??
As an atheist who believes in the importance of ritual I attended church last Sunday in search of solace.
Excellent hymns and none of this 'showing the sign of peace' stuff ruined by a reading (admittedly KJV) warning of the dangers of fornication. Almost ruined my holiday!

Bob Frost, I suspect that you are a teacher (I do not know for sure) but you will have plenty of time to get over your religous distress, what with 12 weeks holiday???
'Bob Frost, I suspect that you are a teacher '
Jimmy, some of my pupils started the year believing that too.............

Bob Frost,
"There there now " you will get over it eventually!!

Bob, you are of course right - semantics matters!! I expect the fact that I have the right to a faith to be respected, and I expect Me to be respected. I am happy to be corrected. Make the most of this - it doesn't happen often............

in the interests of balance, a news item this morning mentioned a "muslim peace camp" in coventry this weekend.
1000 young muslims will be taught how to argue the case aginst extremism to their peers that may have been taken in by the lunatic fringe.
Jimmy, you asked the question, I provided an answer. If you don't want the answer, don't ask the question. If you are going to ask questions on DF you need to have a sense of humour.
Of course I have heard of the accidental killing of one of our soldiers, no need to be so patronising.
