22:0477950Bloody great.
So in spite of the fact that all my employment is PAYE I've just had a bill from the revenue for an extra £780.40 for 98/99.
Let's hope they are going to spend it on something useful...............
Hope the kids like pasta for Christmas!

22:0977952I know cannibals like pastor for Christmas, though I suspect they`d eat them anytime of the year.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

22:0977953Come on Bob,you can get back to them saying you are not in agreement with that and they have to take that up.Some have got away without paying anything. you got to fight them mate and at this time do not part with any money.

23:207797698/99??? I thought you only had to keep records for 7 years, so how on earth can they charge you that much money going back that far? If you kept records for the prescribed time, you would not have a leg to stand on as your records will be destroyed by now. I take it they have evidence of your liability? I would dispute it, on principle. But even if you decline to pay, they will add it to your tax code and recover it over the next financial year. When in a fight with the IR, you cannot win. I know that from experience.

08:4078001Lesley.
If you are self-employed you should keep records for the previous 6 full tax years (so you are right, 7 to include the current year)
If you are employed (on PAYE) you should keep records for the previous 2 full tax years.

13:2678069Ah OK Bob, that makes more sense. They either have info on you having a second income, or benefits in kind (such as company car); unless your company has messed up on their PAYE calculations in which case you should be asking the company to make amends on this. If you want an independent second opinion on this, I don't mind spending an hour looking over it for you. I used to be an accountant in a former life so might be able to make some sense of it if its unclear to you?
