I've just had a trip around Lydden doing various odd jobs and noticed just 3 green recycling bags left out, and I think one of those hadn't got a licence on. That's less than a 1% takeup althought admittedly not everyone would put green waste out every time, but if I was paying for it I would make sure I did!
Has anyone else noticed what's happening in their area?

not seen one on my travels, then again i don't know the collection days.
my prediction is that it will be scrapped by next year.

At least, Howard, when it is scrapped it will now be a loss to 100% of the residents.

# 1 ...can report the same result in the `sticks`here...normally in our lane there would be four or five green bags out...
....this week only one green bag out and it was not collected?....it will mean more summer bonfires.........

The 'green' lorry used to make several stops in our road it just seems to drive up it now, we no longer put our green bag out.

Several bags were not collected in Lyndhurst Rd r where people had left them out without tags, me included. And there were I think only one or two with tags. The lorry just went by and was round in 5 minutes.
Disgusted at the whole idea, we pay enough in Council Tax without this back door tax, which is why there are now garden bonfires appearing. Green our Councilors do not know the meaning of "Green"
I like gardening, I will not burn it and taking it up to the tip in your car makes a mess in the boot no matter how careful you are so I suppose they have us by the you know whats.

It is a poorly thought through plan. I echo that:

Bern,
Either it was poorly thought through,
or it was carefully thought through as a cunning plan to get rid of the green waste collection completely when the takeup wasn't enough to pay for the service
Perhaps Paul W or Sue could tell us what the percentage takeup has been across the district.

Agree with you Harry and Bern. There used to be dozens of bags in my part of the village on green waste day. Now there are hardly any and this time some were left because the residents had obviously not coughed up the £40. One person in my road used to leave 8-10 bags out every fortnight. Suspect he/she was running some sort of business as their garden is not that large. Wonder where that waste is now going?

48,870 "dwelling stock" in 2010 according to DDC state of the district report last year, that gives just over 4% takeup, has got to be disappointing.
100% elegability reduced to 4% in one week is pretty impresive . £80,000 revenue I cant see this making long term economic sense

Not all District had the service, that was the point.
We could not afford to extend the service to all.
Therefore those not having availability of the service were subsidising those who had that benefit.
Those in flats obviously did not use it.
It was intended to spread out the service over a period of years as we originally did with the recycling service.
The national cuts changed that option. It became unaffordable.
We were the only District in East Kent that provided the service free.
There is a reduction in contract charge if the service is not operating.
The service being offered pays for itself.
Early in cycle to know what full take up will be, more people opting in daily.
It is also apparent that some residents had not received notification of the change.
This is being taken up with the Royal Mail who were supposed to deliver to all households.
I'm still awaiting my info.

no excuse for people not knowing, signs up everywhere and it was in the bumf sent with the council tax bill.
It might be the first week the system has operated , but its not the first week that the tags have been avaliable , that was maybe January ? I cant quite remember .
