Yes, I think so. I didn't really get a chance to talk to him during the day as he was whisked off on Tracy and Mandy's tour, but yes I believe so. He actually had a family up there and was housed in the married quarters.
In the last two years we've had three or four people with relatives up there, one with a great-great-great grandfather who featured in the 1861 census, two with relatives who manned the WW1 searchlights and a chap whose grandfather was in the Irish Guards there in 1940 and left his name on the wall. Always adds something special when you meet someone with a personal connection to the bricks and mortar.
You are so right, the human stories always make History more real . I do hope he enjoyed it

Thanks for the 'bump' Howard - also if anyone wants to come and lend a hand at the monthly workday we will be at the Drop Redoubt from 10:30. Lots to do in preparation for the open weekend which is just a few week away...
Been nice knowing you :)

You should ask DHB if you can put some flyers in the marina office. Get the passing tourist boating trade. Once they realise it's just across the road they may just pop by!

Keeps politics to myself

A good idea Helen, although I'm not sure you'd need to ask the Harbour Board, just the people in the Marina office - that's what I did with the Discover Dover leaflet and they soon went too.

quite a busy day with the music in pencester gardens and the "forgotten archcliffe" walk.
