Grand Shaft Openings 2012
- 12 February 2012 20:02153176As mentioned somewhere else recently we will be opening the Grand Shaft up on more occasions this year now that we have tidied up the guardroom to make it more confortable to man. I will bump this thread up every so often and nearer the time we will also get some posters/flyers out. Dates so far:

As Howard says, a good list; the Western Heights are a very important and valuable part of our heritage and you guys do an exceptional job.

- 13 February 2012 19:01153360Yes Paul, that is exactly what I do; it seems that all email addresses that are hotmail.com/co.uk and one or two others are treated as spam and hotmails are very common/popular email addresses.

- 20 May 2012 20:54173605Tour two groups were both fully booked, I'd guess at least 50 at the Redoubt. I don't know about the Shaft though. An awful lot of people out walking dogs expressed an interest including one gentleman who is writing a novel about the Heights in 1939 and requested popping in for research! We had about 16 or 17 volunteers and managed to move a heck of a lot of rubbish out of the fort on ropes and via wheelbarrows. It should all be collected tomorrow morning.

Been nice knowing you :) - 20 May 2012 21:18173610We did also catch a guy passing that was on a walk a couple of years ago will be back in a couple of weeks with a group of scouts who are doing the lifeboat station and a boat tour and will now take them up the Grand Shaft and a quick circuit of the ReodubtBeen nice knowing you :)

- 20 May 2012 21:36173614How could I forget - we had a real Heights superstar up there today too. A gentleman whose grandfather was in the Artillery in the Redoubt in 1901, and was visiting the site for the first time to see. I just wish we had some red carpet!
